Saints Quarterback Drew Brees set a the deadline in the spring, and the Saints are apparently trying to meet that deadline on a new contract this week.
Brees said back in the spring that he would want contract negotiations to be wrapped up before the start of the regular season or it would be shelved until the off-season. Brees and the Saints are reportedly talking extension talk this week, according to Jason Locanfora of Fox Sports. The report from Locanfora also says Brees is seeking 4 years $100 million dollars.
I expect these talks to intensify this week, as we get closer to week 1 in the NFL on Sunday. I would imagine a Brees deal with the Saints could come in this week and be worth $60 million in guaranteed money. Brees is 37 this season and will turn 41 before a new contract would expire under these parameters.
