Expected to make final push before this Sunday. Per BR. Maybe they will finally get it done.

Bleachereport? Let me guess it's Mike Freeman and one of his "unnamed NFL GMs" giving him the scoop.

Came from La Canfora;

While it would not surprise me to learn that Brees & the Saints have resumed contract negotiations, I don't trust La Canfora with Saints news.

I want to hear it from other sources first.

I would give him that much with no problem. As long as he would allow us to set it up on a year by year basis where if he decides to retire we are not on the hook for 25 million a year for someone that's not playing. Of course throw an injury guarantee in there. If he wouldn't agree to that though then I say let him go.

Saw another report that he also wants over $60 million guaranteed. If that's the case, I think it is unreasonable at his age.

4 years @ $100 million for Brees is a steal with 1/2 guaranteed. The past ten years have been the best years the Saints have ever had and Brees is largely responsible for that. He deserves to get paid. I would rather have $25 million in dead money going to Brees than any other player we have. Don't we have $35 million in dead money right now? Who's that going to? Did they bring us a Super Bowl?

I'd be comfortable with 4 years/$100million, $60 million guaranteed. I'd even throw in an extra $5 million injury guarantee on top of that 60 just to sweeten the pot.

$25 million per year is what most of us have been speculating. And, depending on structure, gives us extra cap this year for contingency, or possibly one more signing.

Thinking about our kicker situation gives me severe facepalm.

Edit: Meant to post this in the kicker-related thread, somehow it ended up here in the Drew Brees contract thread. But I'm gonna leave it here because it's still true.
