It doesn't work the way you are thinking it does. The variance of two sums is not (except in certain, rare, circumstances) the variance of the averages of the same set of numbers.

I saw a better stat that mentioned how many losses Brees has taken where he went ahead in the last two minutes and still lost.Brees has had 40+ "game winning" drives when the D gave up scores to pull out a loss.
He has 2x as many games of that type than any other QB!
Wouldn't that be more on the defense?I saw a better stat that mentioned how many losses Brees has taken where he went ahead in the last two minutes and still lost.
Only Phillip Rivers has more losses in that situation than Brees.

Fixed it for ya.Aaron Rodgers is a great QB. There's no denying it. The thing that jumps out at me when I look at his stats are his low Int numbers. He takes care of the football. It's incredible to see a QB with 500-600 attempts finishing with single digit Ints. If he doesn't like what he sees downfield he's going to take the sack to protect his QB rating instead of trying to make something happen and turn the ball over.

For most of his career Drew Brees hasn't had that luxury. Most years he's been forced to try to make plays because the defense was mediocre at best and historically bad at worst. Of all the incredible things Brees has done, including the records and mind boggling stats, what impressed me most was seeing him drag those terrible defenses to 7 wins.
Watching Brees will some of those teams to 7 wins was remarkable. I don't think people understand what a herculean feat that was. Just go look at the defensive numbers from '12, '14, '15, and '16. All of those defenses gave up over 400 points and 6,000 yards. It would be hard to overstate just how bad those defenses were but somehow the Saints still reached 7 wins.
Since Aaron Rodgers became the starter, Green Bay has only given up over 6,000 yards once ('11). They have given up 400 points twice ('13 & '18). But they have never given up 6k yards and 400 points in the same season.
Last year the Bengals gave up 420 points and 6,299 yards. They went 2-14.
The 2012 New Orleans Saints gave up 454 points and 7,042 yards. They went 7-9.
3 times as many.Brees is 2nd all time in game winning drives, not 1st. But he does have about twice as many as Rodgers.
Correct.Sadly, you could argue that this is the defining stat of this era that determined the legacy and the number of championships.
If defense doesn't 100% win championships, it's almost impossible to win them with defenses as bad as we had in Brees' prime years. And since we've got better overall on defense, still key defensive breakdowns at key moments have payed a huge role in playoff exits.Correct.
It has ruined his legacy. Especially in the playoffs.
