Bucky Brooks has the Saints taking LSU's Kristian Fulton at 24 (1 Viewer)

Would not mind Henderson at 24, but he will likely be the second CB picked and a top 20 selection. I don't see Fulton going as high as 24.

Imo, no way the saints go corner in the 1st.

Played well in college and got talked up by every announcer, but I always felt he lacked confidence. He will be a good player, but I don't think he has the makeup to be great/elite. Hope he proves me wrong.

I felt the same way about Tre'Davious White when he was leaving LSU He proved me wrong. The thing about LSU CBs is that they get great coaching from Corey Raymond and they are used to playing on an island with little help. LSU also hasn't had much of a pass rush the last few years so a guy that can play well one on one against SEC WRs without much of pass rush, has to be a pretty good player. And Fulton was the guy they were most likely to pick on this year because nobody was throwing at Stingley. So, it's not like he got by on prior rep this year.

These are his weaknesses from his NFL.com profile:

Weaknesses
  • Suspended all of 2017 for falsifying specimen for drug test
  • Inconsistent staying in route phase from press
  • Plus route-runners can shake and separate
  • Confidence has been flighty at times
  • Glitchy hips in transitions for in-breaking routes
  • Struggles to find early recovery burst
  • Long speed could be a concern on next level
  • Loses balance and positioning downfield
  • Tardy responses to quarterback's clues in off coverage
  • Below-average toughness/technique as tackler
That sounds just like Eli Apple.

You are high. Fulton has been the best CB in the SEC the last two years. If you're not taking Fulton for your imagined criteria then you're not taking any CB in this draft.

Stingley disagrees... but I do agree that Fulton is a solid corner and would be a good fit for the Saints at 24.

Happens only if we obtain an extra draft pick, somehow.

I'm really thinking we go WR in the early rounds. I'm no Loomis, but the economics would appear to demand it, actually. The free agent wideouts would be more expensive and possibly not worth it anyway.

Stingley has only been in the SEC for one year, making it impossible for him to be the best CB in the SEC for the last two years.

I'd prefer Skalski (Clemson) if he's there. I think he might be the next Kuechley.

Not a Tigers fan, so I never really paid attention to Fulton.

Can some of you LSU fans tell me whether he is or isn't worthy of the 24th pick?

Thanks in advance.

This is going change about 20 times from now until the night of the draft next month.

He was a 5 star recruit but I believe had some injuries early on. He was picked on a lot because teams shy’d away from True Freshman Stingley. Honestly I’d rather a WR or OL over Fulton and I’m a huge LSU fan
No telling how good Stingley is going to get. It is rare to hear about a true Freshman Corner let alone one who is already a lockdown one.

With that logic... it would be impossible for Fulton to be the best for the last 2 years when Stingley was the best last year.

Or maybe I'm missing something...

I swear I’m not some super LSU homer lol but I’d rather have about 4 different LSU players at that spot. Queen, Chaisson, Jefferson, or Delpit

I'd take Queen and Jefferson. But I'm really not sold on Chaisson or Delpit really. I think both are very good players, but I'm not sure that either is better than Fulton. Delpit may be, but he really did not look very good last year. Maybe that was because of injury, but maybe he just lost something. And, I don't think Chaisson ever got back to what he was before the knee injury. At this point, his best talent may be setting the edge in run defense, but he might be a little undersized in the NFL, and he hasn't shown to be a great pass rusher since his freshman year. Of course, I've been wrong before.

Im not sold on Chaisson either. I hope he proves me wrong but he really wasn’t that dominate in college and missed a lot of games. I think he would be a good fit on a defense as a 3rd down pass rush specialist but don’t see him being a great every down LB.

I agree. He has the ability to be better than Patrick Peterson. And then we got Elias Ricks, that’s gonna be a scary combo!

I think Chaisson is going to be a better professional. Aranda didn't really take advantage of his skillset. Chaisson spent touch time in coverage, IMO.

I'm 100% sure that Delpit will be one of the best defensive players in this draft.
