While on the way into work tonite...I was listening to Deke and Bobby on the radio...and a caller made a claim [which Deke backed up] that the Colts team [22 starters] consist of draft picks and undrafted free agents...which I find totally amazing...none of the 22 starters have ever worn another teams uniform....of course...you have to be able to evaluate players out of college...and can't make mistakes in your picks...

Yeah, and something like 18 of the pats 22 starters were drafted by them. Good teams do not build through FA. Whether we like it or not, its going to take another year or two of great drafts for us to be a serious top level team.

Bill Polian has been and continues to be the best in the business. He knows how to evaluate talent and draft. He also knows not to over pay for guys like Jason David and gladly collect a fourth round pick that he will use to build more talent. He wisely let Edgerrin James go to free agency before he lost a step, while keeping to the big irreplaceable stars like Manning, Harrison and Wayne.

This is no secret.

Hopefully, Loomis is taking notes. There are times when free agency can help you. Drew Brees being the shining example. But we all saw it first hand last year, if you want to be a champion you must have drafts like we had in 2006 and you must do it year after year.
