Bush Stimulus Plan Includes $1,600 Rebate, People Say (Update3) (1 Viewer)

Is Bush trying to stimulate the U.S. economy or the Asian economy?

Anybody notice something about the purchase plans of the folks on this thread?

actually you have hit on a key issue. you figure 18% will go retailers, the rest of all this "stimulus" will to the manufactures in asia and mexico.

But hang on. Isnt a 1600 dollar rebate just going to mean at the end of the year I just have to pay that 1600 back?

thats another important detail and depends how rebate is defined, is it a advance on your return, is it a deduction? is it a tax credit, or, is income that you will be taxed on next year?

I haven't heard what it will be.

Hmmm, you've got a good point there.

Zenith plasma tv baby!!!

no offense to you guys, but this is why i believe this "economic stimulus" is BS and should not be done.

Going out and buying a new tv, washer and dryer, or a new cloths, which is what most of this money will go too, does absolutely nothing to address the reason we are having issues with the economy.

And those issues are inflationary energy prices, and crash of the financial institutions that neglegantly loan more money to people than they should have, under terms they could not realistically meet.

economic stimulus is summed up as follows:

"here's a new plazma tv, don't be made at <insert politician name here >, your government loves you, please vote for <insert candadite name here> in november"

man, someone's cranky today. I'm pretty certain most of us were being facetious to some degree...

but on a serious note, consumer spending makes up 70% of our economy. The quickest way to prop up the economy is to ensure consumers have more money to do what they do best... consume.

The problem isn't that there will be less money being taxed, it's that there will probably never be a corresponding restraint in spending down the line.

besides, i've maxed out my 401(k), have no debt other than house debt, have already saved up to pay for my masters degree in advance... it's about time i do my patriotic duty and spend money frivolously like the rest of my countrymen.

no, quit complaining and go buy your plasma tv baby.

$1600....

wow, I can go out and get a landscaper and a maid and a construction worker to do maintenance on the house for a whole year!! Gotta love illegal imigrants :)

As an "economic stimulus", the effect will be minor.

However, since it won't do any harm either, I won't turn my nose up at 800 dollars dropping into my lap from the sky.

Getting 800 dollars from the feds as part of an economic plan that I disagree with is better than getting nothing as part of an economic plan that I disagree with.

crack whores and whiskey!!!

Finally get to treat my herpes baby.....errr...I mean......PLASMA TV BABY!!!
