Tenders provide a window into how much a team values a player. Saying that, Saints tendered OT Jermon Bushrod with a 2nd rounder.
I expected a higher tender than that

Now confirmed by Bushrods agent

Saints have begun sending out restricted free agent tender offers. OT Jermon Bushrod got second-round offer, according to agent Rich Rosa.

Not surprising. Still depends on the new CBA and if these tenders mean anything once the new NFL begins. But still, it provides some protection.

Sounds like they are fishing....

This is good for 2 reasons:
1) They are confident in Charles Brown that he can start at LT next year.
2) They are confident that Stinchcomb will revert to his 09 probowl form.

I'm not so sure about this. Charles Brown has very little real game experience. But I trust Payton and the coaches

Bushrod had little game experince too, but the staff felt he was ready.

But still... a 2nd round tender is nothing to sneeze at. The Saints are merely setting his worth, and if a team wantss him the Saints have a week to match any deal that a team offers to JB.

He's not going anywhere, but in case he does... we have a young OT that (may be) ready to step in, and we get a 2nd rounder out of it where we can go and draft another one.

Remember folks... Bushrod is no Willie Roaf.

Sounds about right, imo.

These are all pretty meaningless anyways since he'll likely be a FA.

But I'll put my speculation shoes on for the fun of it. They don't want him to think that they value him highly because then he might expect big money in return. Plus a 2nd round tender is pretty fair.

Bushrod was #2 on the depth chart and was thrown into the fire because Jammal Brown got injured not because the Saints chose him over Brown

He's referring to when we traded Jamal Brown so that Bushrod could start.

When we traded JB, Bushrod had started an entire season - one in which the team won the SB. I would say that Bushrod had plenty of game experience.

My point was that we didn't panic and trade for/sign an OT when JB got hurt.

This is no different... Brown is 2nd on the depth chart, and if Bushrod for whatever reason isn't here then Charles Brown will need to be ready to go.

Well total confusion. They are literally changing their story by the minute. I think at this point I will believe Schefter.

Yeah, but do you remember how many people said that he sucked? Remember when he gave up a sack to a guy on "1 leg"? Remember when he allowed Ware to continuously get to Brees when we played the Cowboys?

For the record, I like Bushrod. I think he still has a lot of room to grow. That said, I trust whatever the coaches choose to do.

Yes and if you go back you'll see that you can count me among those. But going with an inexperienced LT was a decision made of necessity not by choice.
