I hate to start this thread because I know where its going to end but I was turned on to some relevant information on Reggie's development as a runner.

http://www.nfl.com/players/reggiebush/profile?id=BUS294963

Plain and simple.

2006 3.6 ypc
2007 3.7 ypc
2008 3.8 ypc
2009 4.1 ypc

Looks like he may have figured it out, not to mention the blocking seems to be much improved this year.

Let the never-ending battle ensue:covermyeyes:

So far the main thing I have noticed with him is his commitment to just taking the 4 and 5 yard gains within the design of the play. If he continues to do that, he will pop a long one eventually.

That's the key for Reggie. I have noticed he doesn't try to make every play an ESPN highlight now. That approach will serve him well. Just hang on to the dang ball.

He seems to be learning how to hit the holes properly. He stopped running east-west unless he sees a clearing. Like on the stretch play vs. the Jets where there were no holes and he cut back left and had like a 15 yard gain (the one where Drew threw a sick block). See also the divisional playoffs against the Eagles.

He also seems to not only run north-south more, but he hits the holes better. Before this year when he would run in between the tackles he would hit the holes either too early or too late. He's learning patience and with his speed and quickness, expect a few big runs from him this year.

I know at least one person will bring up him fumbling, but keep it mind PT also fumbled. It just so happened Breesus got all Breesus and got the recovery.

I'm guilty of my own fair share of Reggie hating, but I expect good things from him this year :9:

I'd like to know his TD to Fumble ratio.

Certainly something he needs to continue to work on.

13 TD and 12 fumbles rushing
8 TD and 1 fumble receiving
4 TD and 3 fumble on Punt returns

25 TD to 16 fumbles total

but he also has 7 solo tackles:hihi:

How many attempts does he have compared to the first four games of each year?

I don't know if Reggie is "getting it" or "getting better" but,IMO, it is Payton's selective play calling for him that has him at an increased YPC.

I still have hope for him and I'm pulling for him. I think he'll have some very big moments this season.

Looking through Running Back stats at Pro-Football Reference, and it seems that there is certainly some precedent for RBs slowly improving their YPC.

Just to throw a random guy out there, let's take Thomas Jones for example.

3.3, 3.4, 3.7 his first three years - then, 4.6, 4.0, 4.3, 4.1.

"I'd like to know his TD to Fumble ratio."

That's easily found. Reggie has fumbled the ball 16 times in his career. He has a total of 13 rushing touchdowns, 8 receiving touchdowns, and 4 punt return touchdowns - a grand total of 25 TDs. That's about 1.6 Touchdowns for every fumble.

Edit: Sorry PurpleBlackandGold I see you already posted some of these stats - had my window open for a while without posting!

Through the first 4 games:

2006 45 carries
2007 50 carries
2008 52 carries
2009 36 carries

His workload has been reduced and that's understandable with the way Pierre and Bell have played. But I like that he is being more efficient. Honestly, I think Payton was going to try to pound the ball with Reggie on that series that he fumbled on. He had a few nice runs up to that point. They showed the replay of his next run after the fumble and he had both arms around the ball. He is not accustomed to running in traffic like that. He will learn, just like Tiki learned.
