The New Orleans Saints have spent the past couple of seasons repeating the mantra that they're not good enough to overcome a slew of costly mistakes and beat a good team.
The Saints, a team that seemed to be on the rise at the season's halfway point, nearly pulled off that feat Sunday against the reigning Super Bowl champions, only to have the rug ripped out from under them in bizarre fashion at the last second.
Denver's Justin Simmons leaped over the Saints offensive line, blocked Wil Lutz's go-ahead extra-point try, and the ball bounded into the hands of Will Parks, who returned it for a two-point conversion that gave the Broncos a 25-23 win and left the Saints feeling like a huge victory had been ripped away from them.
"Still in disbelief, a little bit," quarterback Drew Brees said. "Especially when you score at the end, you think that's, I don't want to say the game-winner, but listen, it puts you up by a point, then, 'Hey, let's see what happens.'
