Can Deonte Harris add Explosive Receiving Value Similar to Tyreek Hill? (1 Viewer)

I like him a lot, but I think it is unfair to compare him right now to Hill. Harris has waist go. We have to consider he is way smaller than Hill.

Hill is 5-10, 185
Harris is 5-6, 170. That is not a lot of body to absorb hits.

If he can handle the punishment, I think he can develop into a weapon for us, but not in the volume the chiefs use Hill.

I have to disagree just a bit here. At that height, at least in football, the difference is minimal. Athleticism is what matters to players like Harris and Hill, something they both have in abundance.

A four inch difference only matters in one place, and we all know what I'm getting at. I can agree on the weight, but Harris could likely put on ten pounds and maintain his speed. Even then, he seemed to handle some big hits on punt and kick returns pretty well this season.

Great thread, Swimmer. :9:

That .gif shows that the pass was actually UNDERTHROWN. Deonte' has some jets!

:gosaints:

The pass vs the Vikings was badly under thrown by Taysom Hill. Harris had to make a great catch on what should have been a walk-in TD. I give Taysom credit for hitting him at all after not being in any thing close to a “rhythm” at QB... and it was better to underthrow Harris there vs overthrow him.

Hill is 5 10

Harris is 5 6

Both are small. But that’s a big difference.

Maybe close in speed but hill is 5’10 solid and Harris 5’6 on a good day .

We can look in that area of comparable players I think though

I would just like to add that Steve Smith was originally drafted as a return man, not WR. He begged to get a shot at WR and the rest was history

I think he can be useful, but he'll need to be used sparingly and as number 3 receiver. He just looks too small. KC plays hill in the slot sometimes. If DH played slot and caught a pass over the middle he would get destroyed by linebackers. I hope I'm wrong

Not as fast as Tyreek, but just as shifty. His catch radius is small, he will have to get open, which he seems to be capable of.

I go to someone's Birthday Party and I miss a swimmer thread. I knew I should of stayed home. You give Taysom and Deonte increased role in this offense there will be lots of positive results. Taysom in the playoffs proved you could give him plenty of touches and still be productive. More importantly he kept the ball secure.

Harris is such a great return specialist, and he has such excellent short-area quickness, explosion, and vision, that I think he could be deadly on screens.
A big reason why Pierre Thomas was so awesome at screens was because he was an outstanding kick returner. He didn’t do it very much as a pro (maybe because he lacked great long speed) but PT23 is the all time record holder for kick returns in University of Illinois history... he broke the long standing record set by Red Grange (the galloping ghost). PT23’s ability to see the field, and blocks and lanes developing in front of him, that he was able to translate that skill into the screen game.
Deonte Harris has that same skill set... only he’s much quicker and fast than Pierre Thomas was (minus Pierre Thomas’s underrated power and toughness).

I look at Harris as someone who can be a vital part of the offense but Payton has to be sneaky with his game plan for it to work. But I do agree he needs to get more touches. Not going to as good as Hill but if Harris can contribute somewhat in the offense, then I am happy.

To the topic of this thread. Harris' career will likely look a lot like #84 Michael Lewis.

Well maybe. But Lewis didn't get to play in a great offense with Payton game planning for him. With Harris...this is his opportunity. But that's up to Harris if he is able to take it to the next level. But I will say that route against the Vikings to fool them was nice.

BTW: I think I just got engaged. She's awesome, but I wonder if I'll do the Swimmer magic on her and she ends up as Mrs Swimmer #3 talking to herself a lot in empty rooms. I pray not - lol

Ummm, what do you mean, "I think"? How is that something you're not sure about?:giggle:

Short can be an advantage. At 5'6" he can literally hide behind his line and blockers. When it comes to blocking get low. The lower center of gravity has more power, quicker reflexes. He just won't win many jump balls
