I think maybe they should try him for distance as Carney's leg strength has diminshed with Father time. I have seen other teams use their strong leg kicker(Can't give you a example off the top of my head) just for kickoffs. He seems to boom punts so I am willing to bet he could really blast the ball deep. Anyone else think this could be a possibility? It was apparent yesterday that Carney's kickoff's were being fielded at the 20 yard line in some cases. Way too short as the Steelers were starting out at the 35+ yard line all game long. Opinions?

I was thinking the same thing. Carney is kicking field goals well, but man are his kickoffs horrible. We might be better off kicking them out of bounds and giving the other team the ball at the 40(kidding), but it almost seemed that way.

I am really thinking we should sign a kickoff specialist this week.. Don't know who's spot he would take, but something is needed.

I was thinking the same thing....could use someone that can boom it!

I agree rl it'd be nice if we could get someone in there that puts it in the endzone everytime. Perhaps they could wave that latest TE with Conwell coming back soon.

They used him for the first half last week. It was not good.

Weatherford was kicking off in the Tampa game? I had not noticed that. Well so much for that idea..

Yeah, I was just looking at the roster and was thinking the same thing. Whats with the need for the TE's? Both Lawrie and Owens were inactive yeasterday.

I remember when Morten Anderson use to kick em beyond the endzone. I think Carney might be getting a little arthritis in his hips or something.

Don't think that payton would mind taking Devery Henderson off the roster... especially with Joe Horn coming back soon.

Glad somebody asked it. I've been thinking the same thing. Kickoffs to the 20 yard line is not gonna cut it. It will lose games for us in the long run. Somebody call the coach tonight and ask about this.

Jim and Hokie said the Carney took a pretty good hit early in the game and that was what was effecting his kicks.

Carney has never kicked dep. Weatherford was pulled against Tampa after he kicked it out of bounds and they started on the 40. i think we'd be better with the rook in the long run. He isn't afraid to hit anyone either.

If he practices and does it on a regular basis he should get comfortable with it. He has become a very solid punter and that is under big time pressure with teams coming to try for the block. I would think that kicking off is just technique and practice. I think he could be good.
