a 10m salary can quickly turn into a 10m bonus that is a 2m cap hit with that

Every $1 of increase gives each team about $5 to spend in the future. The cap never decreases. If the cap increases $1, a team can sign a player to a 5 year $5 deal.

For every million added, experts say that amounts to $5 million in terms of the bonus that can be handed out. $2 million all of a sudden provides $10 million. So, yes, it would be nice if the cap is raised higher than expected.

Perhaps this is why the Saints have been so quiet on the cuts/restructuring front.
