Cap Specialists Discussion about MT, Taysom, and AK (1 Viewer)

MT is one of those players it hurts to think about. He could've been a HOF receiver for us. I never in a million years would've guessed he would never seen any meaningful playing time after signing that contract. It also hurts how/when he got injured. So unnecessary.

Its going to be real interesting playing against Michael Thomas next year after the Panthers or Falcons sign him.

I know Peat isn’t a fan favorite, making Peat a post June 1 cut saves $12m this year and leaves us with a dead cap hit of $10m next year.

Is it just me or do all these salaries look like the playing with Monopoly money? I just can't wrap my head around somebody making $30-$40 million a year. Not talking about anybody in particular just the whole thought of somebody Making that much in a year just doesn't seem like it's real. Whether it be an athlete, CEO, news anchor, or anybody. The closest I'll ever be is the Powerball or Mega millions. Lol. But oh how I would love to see what that felt like. Haha

I'm not sure why anyone wants to trade AK or Taysom. They are our offense.
If we get rid of them we'll be putting up 6' and 9's all year
I’ll answer that.

AK is talent and would warrant nice compensation. Taysom is out of respect he can go compete on a winning team and help us reset our cap sooner.
I want a young hungry north and south back

I don’t know how Loomis will pull this one off. If we restructure our top three contracts to turn as much 2023 money as possible into restructuring bonuses, we save $32m against the cap but we are still $27m over the cap. If we go down the list and say let’s do the same for Kamara, still $19m over the cap. We have to get under the cap before we can designate anyone a post June 1 cut, so we’ll have to either restructure the bulk of the roster or make some tough cuts.

Not as hard as you think.

A few inaccuracies in his video. Post June 1 cuts can’t happen until after we are already under the cap for the start of the league year, so we can’t really count those towards our steps together under the cap.

Also, he said we could find $25m in savings with a restructure of Lattimore and Jordan, we can only save $20m by restructuring those two.

I think the post June 1 cuts are a no brainer, but we need to restructure a lot of players before we can even consider those. And then we still only have something like 39 players on the roster after restructure and post June 1 cuts.

Probably a bunch of restructures. I don't think we can cut enough ppl to make it under if we wanted to. There are a few cuts that could help though, if they decide to on those.

Can some gurus explain the complexities of options of the above players as it relates to Trading, June 1st cutting, or a restructure of sorts?

I saw an article that alluded to June 1st cutting was all but a certainty regarding MT but that makes no sense when doing the calculator on OTC. Saves nothing next 2 years.

What voodoo can be done by Loomis in a trade? Can a contract restructure be done that makes it more cap friendly for us trade any of the above players but we accept less compensation? I think Taysom can be a prime candidate for that if possible.
Just saw this. Don’t know if it’s been posted.

Not to sound like that guy who had a friend at the gym who knew everything but I have it on really good authority(member of Saints pro personnel office) who had a few too many drinks in Nashville this past offseason swore up and down the Saints would try to move AK this offseason.

I would try to move Lattimore, he can get the best return and we have capable backups already.
