Is that cause we buried over the cap?
No it’s because it’s not actually a thing.

We are likely to designate him as a post-June 1st cut because it splits the cap hit in half. Absorbing the entire hit now, because of the structure of the deal, would be unnecessarily punitive.

This is my worry too. We get this guy and he ends up getting us to 8-9 max with the coaching talent we have now. If we get him, please Saints brass, get the guy some decent offensive coaches.

Say that happens and Allen continues to be the road block to winning. As long as Loomis moves on from him then we look a lot more attractive for a future coach than we currently do. You have a top half of the league QB and then you can continue to build the team.

While I think Carmichael had issues he was stuck with a QB who refused to throw it to guys unless they were completely open, had no mobility and zero ability to make any sort of clutch play when needed. Carmichael is frustrating but I wouldn't be surprised if he was forced to go conservative by Allen and hamstrung by abysmal QB play.

Carr has some leverage in this with his no trade clause. He'll be able to pick his team and the Raiders will have to either accept the compensation offered or decide to keep him. If he decides on the Saints, they shouldn't offer more than a 5th or 6th rounder to the Raiders to take his contract off their hands.
could be a conditional pick based on playing time and achievements

You’re taking that last statement out of context. Carr had built up a strong resume. McDaniels came in and stuff fell apart.

Jameis didn’t have a similar resume for success. As I already stated. The numbers were one thing. But the context of the numbers matters. Was the team behind? What did the system emphasize? For example, Jameis didn’t have eye-popping numbers last year. But imo, it was his best season because our weapons weren’t good and he did what was necessary to win games.

Anyway…from a Saints (and a Saints fan) perspective, there really is no Jameis vs Carr. Because Jameis isn’t going to be here.
I mean, Carr has thrown more garbage time yards per season than Jameis since 2017 but it's neither here or there. What I'm saying is this perceived upgrade is more about perception than folks really want to admit

I'm not sure Carr wins us 3 more games last year. I do think his best football is better than Andy's best but Carr may not be worth the contract difference. If he cost 25M more than Dalton, then I might sign Dalton and draft a QB.

If you would take Dalton over Carr, then you should probably get your head checked. If you willing to roll with Dalton bc of money, then you should probably get your head checked as well. Carr is a clear upgrade. Dalton is barely serviceable at this point in his career

That’s not what the stats say.

5 of LV losses were by 3 or less. And two of those went to OT. Had those games been won we wouldn’t be talking about him. (And another two losses were less than a Td). He got cut because expectations were through the roof.

I actually texted Bobby on WWL about Carr. He didn’t respond, but he was saying that the $ difference between Carr and AD doesn’t justify their talent differences. This is plain dumb. You don’t win a bigger Super Bowl trophy if you’ve spent less on your roster. He also said they are similar in age. (31-35) My reply was this: Of the two QBs who has a better chance at side stepping a free rusher?

Also, I like Ad, but he does not have a cannon arm nor did he attempt many deep passes and less while being blitzed. (He reminded me of Bree’s in his last few seasons) He‘d either dump it off to a hot route or dine on a sack.

I found this on NFL,com regarding Carrs ability to throw the deep pass while being blitzed
“In the face of persistent hardship, Carr stood tall in the pocket, racking up 806 deep passing yards from inside the tackle box. Against the blitz, Carr completed 50 percent of his deep pass attempts for the most deep passing yards (420) on such attempts in the NFL. He was one of just six qualified quarterbacks in the NFL to post a completion percentage of 50 or better on such attempts and tied for the most touchdowns with four. His CPOE of 15.8 in this area was the fifth-highest in the league.”

DA would say. LOOK, we’re lucky to have a chance to steal a Qb in their prime for peanuts. :) My plan would be to sign Carr for 5 years with 2 voidable. Resign AD and draft a QB with 29 or 40. I’d have all three going into next year. Ad is a team player. Say get Hooker. We groom him under Carr for 3 years then reevaluate Qb1.
This scenario keeps the bags off of the fans for the foreseeable future.

I doubt it. Interceptions will make a defense look bad. Not only due to lack of rest, but also because they often have to defend short fields. Also turnovers is the most important stat correlated with wins.
You doubt it? The Bucs should have finished the season 11-5 and with the 5th seed and that's with 29 interceptions in regulation

With 30 interceptions, the Bucs finished 7-9.

vs. Giants - Bucs defense let's Giants come back. Jameis drives them down the field just for Gay to miss a chip shot. Jameis threw 1 interception
vs us - Bucs defense let's Teddy have a career day while Jameis has a turnover free game
vs Seahawk - Defense let's Russ have a career day while it goes back and forth. Jameis throws no interceptions but has a single fumble loss
vs Falcons - Gay misses every field goal that game. Falcons send game to OT on a last second field goal. Jameis threw 1 interception in regulation

The thing that people don't realize is Jameis threw over half of his interceptions in the 4 games that you can somewhat blame on him. They also started the beginning of the season 2-6 and lost 3 games with Jameis averaging 300 yards, 7TD/1INTs and the Bucs scoring 30 points a game. The problem is the Bucs defense gave up 32 PPG the first 8 games of the season.

So again, Jameis throwing the ball like he did in 2019 with our defense wins 12 games easy. Yall got so caught up on interceptions that you all didn't realize that the Bucs were #3 in offense (both yards and points).

Top 10 is debatable. Guys I’d definitely put ahead of him:

Mahomes
Burrow
Hurts
Allen
Herbert
Jackson
Lawrence
Rodgers (if he plays)

Maybe:

Cousins
Tua (health)
Dak
Kyler (health)
Daniel Jones
Goff

That’s 8 definites and 6 maybes.

I’d probably say around 11-12. But a case could be made for anywhere between 9 and 15.

I rank Carr at 15th with Kyler, Jones, Tua below and Stafford above. Tua only ranks lower due to health. Geno Smith ranks lower because of sample size. Tannehill and Garoppolo (health) round out the bottom of the top 21. I think more fans should look at this list and ask if Carr is worth 35-40M with our current cap. I don't think Garoppolo or Jones are worth 35M. Teams have to put a price on health. Would you take Garoppolo at 25M or Jones at 32M?

We couldn’t win 10 games in Brees final year.
Give me the highest graded available rookie over Carr. Carr has no upside and will command top dollar. I’m official off the Carr bandwagon
The highest rated rookie at 29 will be a dart throw at best. I’d bet good money that Carr outplays them. We’d have to trade up to have a legit chance to have a rookie franchise QB, but the cost would likely be our next years 1st

Landing a starting quarterback is so damn hard but it’s essential to success. You can say screw it let’s tank for Williams. But there’s no guarantee the Saints get a top 5 pick. There’s no guarantee Williams won’t be a bust. The stats on drafting a QB are pretty bad.

So after you’ve tanked, drafted a bust, and are now trying to draft another QB you’ve destroyed your team culture. No decent free agents want to go to your team. The lack of QB also scares off head coaches and OCs. So congrats. We’re back in the cellar for decades.

That’s why when a player like Carr becomes available you need to shoot your shot. Is he elite? No. He’s solidly second tier though. He can get you to the playoffs and with a strong team even to the Super Bowl in a weak NFC. What more do you want? At least to have the chance at the playoffs is great

Top 10 in what?

So if one game sample size means nothing, why is Carr an upgrade when both Jameis and Dalton have a career QBR higher than him?

"A player who lost this job to Andy Dalton?" Come on man, both you know and I know that has more to do with DA than any skill or performance. And while we are on that.

Upgrade though?

JW just got hurt reading your reply. Now he’s out another 4-6 weeks. Great
