Team might be willing to give USC coach total control

Steve Wyche / Atlanta Journal-Constitution

Undaunted by the searing aftermath of getting jilted by former coach Bobby Petrino a month ago, Falcons owner Arthur Blank apparently is willing to survey the college coaching landscape again to fill the team's head coach vacancy.

Blank, according to ESPN.com and other published reports, has reached out to Southern California coach Pete Carroll, who expressed interest in speaking with Blank. Part of his interest is Blank's willingness to allow Carroll to coach and have control of personnel — dual roles that would solve the Falcons' need to hire a new general manager as well as a coach.

Whether talks proceed with Carroll, who is on vacation in Hawaii, will be known over the next few days, but Carroll recently expressed no desire to leave USC, where he has won two national titles and posted a 76-14 record in seven seasons, for the Falcons job. Full Story – Journal-Constitution
