I was looking at a list of potential free agent DTs and found that Casey Hampton was on the list. I know he is quite old(35), but he has spent his entire career playing in the 3-4 and for a successful franchise as well. I also don't think he would cost a fortune to sign as his career is coming to the end. I think he could help with the transition and also provide solid leadership for the team. This would allow us to have a smart vet who can hopefully be like another coach for our DL in regards to their responsibilities when playing in the 3-4. What do my other Saints fans think of this?

We need depth behind Bunkley (who, based on his cap numbers, would be stupid to cut). Then bring in a rookie from whatever round...then we will be looking pretty at NT.

no, he has performed poorly according to pro football focus, but the other young guy that is also a free agent for them has done well, going after the young guy is what I would do. have to look up his name.

he would provide solid back-up for bunkley. hampton has been very injury prone over the past few years.but not having to b the man in the middle could help him stay healthy. sign him

pass..doesn't make sense to have two decently payed NT's on the roster. Supplement bunkely with a late round draft pick instead of another verteran....or a younger player.

I'd rather Aubrayo Franklin. He's familiar with us n we're switching to an alignment that he's prolly more suitable for. Besides, he did much better than Hampton this past season

He's been playing 5 tech for the Steelers and has done pretty well as a backup. Much better than he did as a 4-3 DT with the Saints.

He will retire IMO.

I agree. The Steelers are gonna let him go and he's probably gonna retire. Call it quit's and retire a Steeler. He had a great career.

This. Those saying he's got nothing left in the tank aren't watching the games. He's, obviously, not near his peak, but he'd be a very solid #2 NT for almost any team. The real issue is that he's likely going to want better than the vet min, and being 35, no one will pay it. But if by chance he does go for less, NO would be a good place for him. In a rotation like I imagine you guys (under Ryan, for sure) will run using DEs and LBs in a sliding DL (see Steelers D last 2 years), he'd be fine. Taking run downs only and only playing inside.
