Jeff Faine became the richest center in NFL history Friday, but he had to leave New Orleans to do it.
Faine, the Saints' starting center for the past two years, reportedly agreed to a six-year, $37.5 million deal with the division-rival Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the early hours of free agency.
The team had not officially confirmed the deal as of Friday evening, but it was widely reported throughout Tampa, Fla., and national media outlets as a done deal, pending Faine's physical exam. The deal reportedly includes $15 million in guarantees, and Faine could earn as much as $20 million in the first three years.
