I have Cingular cell service and a friend told me I could buy cell phone on ebay and just take the simms (sp) card from my old phone and put it in the new phone and it will work as long as the phone is compatable with Cingular. Is that true? How hard is that to do?

The phones have to be compatible, it wont work if it isn't. Also a cell on Ebay may be stolen. If a person has there cell stolen they can report the imei number and the phone will be completely disabled. Then the thief may try to dump it off on Ebay since they can't use it.

You would need to check if there's a sim-lock on the phone.. It could be locked to only accept sim cards from a specific network (i.e. Cingular, Verizon, etc.).. If it is, then you would need to unlock it (there are several methods), and then use your sim card..

Yes it will work. Just be sure to buy from someone who has sold a lot of them and be sure it's unlocked. A lot of then offer a guarantee that it will work.
