I'm surprised no one posted this today so I'll do my best to recap what happened as I caught it a little late.

RECAP:
Charles Grant talk a LOT on the nfl and how players like pacman (**I believe he was a player mentioned) and others deserve a second chance. He talked about how the veteran players that are out of the NFL now, such as the interviewer, should back players now up on this. He went on to complain about the lack of privacy in the NFL for players, mostly on salaries. Finally, the interviewer told him to comment on the Saints. First, they talked about the off-season acquisitions so far. Grant talked about how the defense will be improved a lot, and that he's very excited. He goes on to say they need to be a top 5 defensive team and when they are that'll make the offense a top 1 or 2. Went on to talk about how they're not playing for the division but the whole thing (ie Super Bowl). Lastly, he commented on his play. The announcer hinted towards his ankle for his poor performance, but he never mentioned it only saying there was no excuse for his play. He mentioned how well Will Smith's season was, and went on to say he is going to work hard to get down to 275 and that he should have been there last season.

My thoughts after hearing him were that last season seemed to be a wake up call for him as it has for many of the others we've been hearing from. They seem to be taking things very serious now and I'm really excited about the upcoming season. I hope the recap was accurate as I did catch it late and was talking with someone on the phone while listening on my drive back from slidell. Enjoy!

Thanks for the well--written recap. Why shouldn't the Saints be a Super bowl contender next year? They made it to the NFC Title game in '06 with probably a worse defense.

True, but then again we are the Saints :D part of being a fan I suppose. Some things just don't add up for some reason.

I like Grant. It's nice to hear that he is not making any excuses.

But we have to see it on the field. He seems like a good fella. Here's hoping he's got the will to prepare to win as well.

I agree with SaintJ--good to hear that he's taking responsibility. I like Grant, too, and I like the way he puts his heart in his play.

I went to the Tampa Bay game with my cousin, who does not follow the Saints, but does follow football. This was the second Bucs game in December. His comment was, "Man, that Grant guy is out there because he loves loves to play."

So even though a lot of Saints fans were down on him, at least one objective observer could tell he has a passion for the game.

I'm pulling for Grant to back up what he's saying and have a pro-bowl season next year.

I was in the car all day listening to NFL Radio. I'm depressed that I missed this interview.

Its good to hear that from him. combine that with what Vilma had to say about not being happy until we are winning games from defense, and the addition of Randall and i feel real good about the upcoming season.

Good to hear Charles say he needs to lose some weight. At least they (he and the team) know he shouldn't be 300+. Would also like to see Will Smith drop down to 275 not the 285+ he is at right now.

Charles says all of this every single offseason.......I'll believe it when I see it. Love the guy, but he blows smoke like a politician.

As far as Charles' weight, I think he received bad advice from Haslett when he came into the league. At that time everyone loved that Charles was viewed as big enough to stop the run (at 290 to 300 lbs). I think that he was encouraged to bulk up.

I think he is now getting better advice from Payton and the other current coaches: slim down and get quicker.

Our MVP on defense is the new d-line coach Orgeron. He is the master of the beast he will create on the much improved d-line.

Agree. He said our 2007 defense would be better than the Dome Patrol defense. Then again, we all ate that up...
