Week 1:
USC 38, Idaho 10
LSU 45, MSU 0
Idaho went on to beat CAL POLY (ooooh) by 7, then lose to Washington St. by 17.
MSU went on to beat Tulane by 21 and AUBURN by 5.

Week 2:
LSU 48, #9 VA Tech 7
USC took a leisurely bye week eating pizza with Herbstreit & Musberger and getting haircuts and such.

Week 3:
LSU 44, MTSU 0 (a team that put 42 on #9 Louisville last week)
USC 49, #14 Nebraska 31 (a team that beat Wake Forest by THREE last week)

A 41 point victory over #9 < an 18 point victory over #14, of course. Because OMHVTISOVERRATED!!!!!!!

LSU has allowed 7 points all season. USC gave up 10 to IDAHO.

The lame "OMG you're obsessed with USC!" posts coming in 3...2...1...

LSU is currently #1 in Division 1A total defense, giving up 128.3 yards of total offense and 2.3 points per game.

Second in Div1A is Oklahoma, who is giving up 50 more yards per game. Scoring defense? #2 is Cincinnati who is giving up 5.3 points per game, over twice as much.

USC? They're giving up 336.5 yards per game and 20.5 points per game.

Offense? LSU is scoring 45.7 points per game over THREE games, and putting up 483.3 yards per game. Again over THREE games.

USC? 43.5 points per game on 45 less yards per game (438.5) over only two games.

OMGUSCISTEHGREATEST!!!!

Oh yea? Well they had Reggie Bush and Matt Leinart a few years ago and won a national championship. That means they are teh aw3s0m3ness. And Musberger says they were a few plays away from 4 national championships. G000 t3h tr0j4ns.

Whoa wait a second...Chairman, I think you are thinking way to rationally and using too much common sense. To truly understand AP rankings, you must look at the "other" stats:

Hype(out of 1000points/year): USC=1000points/year; LSU=100points/year

Bias(out of 1000points/year): USC=1000points/year; LSU=10 points/year

Uniform color(out of 100): USC=100, LSU=80

City Size(out of 100) USC=100, LSU=10

Media size for coverage of schools (out of 100): USC=100, LSU=10

Obviously, USC is the better team. I really don't know how anybody can consider LSU as better team than USC when they are being pummeled in the all the above "stats". Chairman, thinking rationally will get you nowhere in college football.

NOTE: All above stats are based on my perception of the perception of a typical AP voter.
