@LarryHolder: #Saints RB Chris Ivory has has been issued a second-round tender, according to a source.

.....

High tender for a former UDFA but I suspect they will take a much lower pick.

2nd round tender gives me the feeling the Saints staff likes him and wants to keep him around. Could this indicate an increased role in Ivory's future, and one of our other RBs on their way out?

or Pierre is on the way out or they want to get compensated for Ivory

I agree. You beat me to it.

I think its Pierre Thomas that gets traded this offseason. I love the guy too but ultimately he has the most trade value out of all our running backs and is also very cap friendly to us to move him(no dead money)

Good for him and good for the saints. Who knows what will happen with our group of runners, someone will be leaving at some point, but I am glad Ivory got the tag.

I'm not sure if this is supposed to be a sarcastic comment or not, but I was implying that (even though we sat him for a large part of last year and really under-used him) the Saints apparently see his value.

I think this also means the Saints are going to do some major cuts (Smith, Vilma, & possibly Harper) in the next few days

Sarcastic? Nope. I'm a BIG Ivory fan.

I see this as a multi-fold action by the FO.

1. We are heavily stacked at RB on the current roster (PT, Sproles, Ivory, Ingram, Cadet) and this gives us a "chance" to potentially add another pick to this year's draft.

2. We've shown Ivory that we do consider him an asset and put a tender on him that tells him he's worthy.

3. We could potentially dangle PT out there for a possible trade...albeit probably nothing more than 5-7th rounder....or even cut him prior to the final cuts if some UDFA comes in and shines.

4. We put the 2nd round tender on him and I'm confident that we got offered something between that and a 4th rounder, we'd take it in a heartbeat.

All in all, I think a classy move by the FO to show some love to Ivory and let him know we took a flyer on him, he's served us well, and we've done the same to him. If we part ways, everyone wins. If we stay together, he gets a bump in pay and we can try it again all over again. Give him a chance to try and make it through an entire season without getting hurt.

Everyone wins!
