Payton was a terrible QB but he seems able to coach them up well enough. You don't have to be an ex-All Pro to know the game. Not that Simms is anyone to be awed by.

On the other hand, Sean Payton was an unmitigated disaster as a QB in the NFL but things turned out rather awesome for him as a Head Coach.

Sometimes you don't need to have been an elite player to have a brilliant mind for analysis and coaching, sometimes you do.
