Christmas idea... Kindle or iPad? (1 Viewer)

Not to derail the thread but how about an Ipad touch for a 13 year old boy that loves games and likes getting on the net? I know you need a WiFi connection and it is basically an Iphone that you can't use to call but he isn't into that yet and I don't want another data plan.

Are you asking if a 13 year old would like an iPod touch? If so, the answer is yes.

iPod touch sounds like the way to go in that instance. I guarantee he'll be watching porn on it the first week you give it to him though.

He'll love it.

It's ok to be traditionalistic, but it is extremely unbecoming to be an *** about it.
"*** about it"? That "improvement" has helped put tens of thousands of americans out of work, and I'm "being an ***" Allow me my "unbecomingness" then.

HEY YOU KIDS GET OFF MY LAWN!!!!
I laughed. Now take my pic down, ya whippersnapper.

The bathroom is renovated :idunno:
Then update the electric. Duh.

We don't have fires down here. Don't need 'em.
Thereby explaining my desire to become a "damn yankee". I can be poor where the weather's good just as I can where it sucks.

Yeah, because all "improvements" are soooo much better than the way things were. Why do we feel that we've got to try and "improve" things that are (and have been for centuries) fine the way they are.

As a printer, I've had my work enshrined in the library of congress. The authors whose work I've put to paper, can physically touch the thing that they've created. It makes their efforts tangible. Not so with that electronic crap. To those things, the authors work is the same as a connect the dots book; no more than pixels. Kind of insulting when you think about it. Gimme a book. A real book.

The good thing about a book is that you can lend it or give it to somebody when you finish it.

The bad part is if you want to keep them they can take over a small home or apartment. I have books on shelves, in boxes, under my bed, in my closet, in, drawers, all over the place.

Of course they don't need batteries and a lot of them have pictures. I like graphic novels too. i don't think a kindle will read those.

Don't whine because you have an obsolete job. Why don't you go build abacuses or sell lead paint?

He could always go work for a company who makes the memory chips for the Kindles :ezbill:... kinda sorta the same thing. :idunno:

The Barnes & Noble Nook allows you to lend books to friends with Nooks :9:

Kindle Pros

The screen is designed for reading. Don't let the fact thats its black and white make you think its a bad thing. it isn't. the DPI on the Kindle is very good, the clarity of text and images is excellent and its desinged to be non reflective, its much easier to read in light, particularly sun light, then the ipad is.

It can access email.

It not only covers books from the amazon store, but magazines as well.

Cons

no web browser that i know of. no pc funcationality.

Ipad

Pros, is a basica pc, does web, apps, games and videos that the Kindle does not do. The ibooks reader is very good and in color.

Cons

you're limted to purchases from the ibooks store, which i've found doesn't always have everything the Kindle store has, however, you can download the Kindle app to the ipad. so ineffect, you can have ibooks and kindle functionality on ipad at the same time.

ipad is significantly more expensive, but you do get mroe for it.

DO NOT BUY THE SONY E-READER. Its garbage.

i gave my 10 year old daugher my old itouch for her birthday after i got a iphone, and she loves it. Its really great on trips to, because you can put kids movies on it so they can entertain themselves in the car on long drives.
