Church shooting (1 Viewer)

If we decide to go down this road, don't be surprised, Eeyore, if you find more then a few ministers, activists who haven't exactly followed Jesus' example too much or went astray at some point, become corrupt, power-hungry, and extremely self-righteous in other ways then just pushing a "prosperity gospel" in a Houston mega-church and they don't fall entirely on the religious right, either.

Brandon diagnosed and explained the true, nagging, elusive reason for these shootings and that's unfettered, unfiltered access to guns. Lets leave it at that. Victim-blaming is petty, stupid, and it usually devolves into self-righteous, extreme partisan bickering.

IIRC, the article stated that the shooter was a woman wearing a trench-coat who was shot and killed by two off-duty police officers and there's been no determination, as its way too early on in the investigation to assess whether or not Osteen was the target or whether the woman was P'Oed off and angry at a ex-husband or boyfriend for cheating on her was her motive. Or what her motives really were for these shootings?

the early church had strong warnings about Simonists- no one should be surprised

The early Christian churches also were very fragmented and since Ancient Rome was essentially, a semi-authoritarian police state whose effectiveness depended on how sane, mentally stable and competent the Roman emperor in power was at any moment in time, most Christians, or "People of the Way", (it wasnt until the end of 1st century C.E. that the word " Christian " began being used) couldn't get involved in local or provincial politics because that involved swearing allegiance to Ceaser over God, so they were very apolitical and for the most part, except in some notable instances in local areas, as long as you paid your taxes, Romans didnt really care who you worshipped because while many individual Romans gave lip service to organized religion, lets just say, privately, quite a few ancient Roman philosophers, writers, patrician senators, famous generals, academics were very critical of religion, in general, if not closested atheists.

But, if it hadn't been for the Roman Empire officially issuing an edict of toleration (Edict of Milan), then making Christianity the sole state religion of the Roman Empire, Christianity never becomes the world's biggest, largest religion.

The Simon you're referencing was actually a early Gnostic or an early practioner of Manicheaism by some theologians and religious historians. Gnosticism was an alternative form of evangelical Christianity, with its own practices, beliefs, and views towards Jesus, God, and the Old and New Testaments. They had their own rival Biblical texts like Book of Egyptians, Gospel of Truth, Gospel of Mary Magdalene, Gospel of Thomas, The Apocalypse of Peter, Gospel of Judas. They differed strongly from the traditional, evangelical churches in that they didnt proselytize, and had a Buddhist-styled form of worship called spiritual duality where divine wisdom and revelations were revealed through secret rituals and ceremonies. After Council of Nicea established the Catholic Roman branch as the sole Christian representative, all other rival Christian churches, sects were attacked, sheet down, their apocryphal texts were to be burned or buried and they were considered heretics by the now-official sole Rome-based church.

That is quite an offensive comment E.e.y.o.r.e (had to use periods because autocorrect).

America is getting more and more anti-Christian, or against Christians. I was just thinking that America is ripe for religious persecutions, it's a sign of America's decline. And here we are, probably the largest single church in America, that brings a positive, faith filled message every week, only to be persecuted for practicing a faith indoors.

People want Christianity to go away and they are not afraid to use force, lie, and kill. This should warn all Christians, that we are not welcomed in America any more by the mainstream.

Where is the public out cry???? You think Hollywood or Washington will come out and defend the faith???

The most persecuted majority in history

Osteen and his prosperity theology driven sports auditorium-come-megachurch were exposed for the hypocrites they are during and after hurricane Harvey when Osteen refused to open church doors to those displaced by the storm.

Christianity’s worst enemy is Christians

huh?
America is closer to being a theocracy than it has been in a hundred years
(During the Great Depression, many snakeoil salespreachers took advantage of the vulnerable)
But we are way closer to Handmaid’s Tale than any sort of secular democracy
