Releases midnight tonight! Who's in?

I pre-ordered mine. Have been looking forward to this for a couple months now. I am really interested in seeing how they are expanding the city building process this go around.

I know some people like to avoid the civ games until all the expansions come out, at which time its usually reduced in cost, but this looks pretty good.

Thanks. I have not played civ since II (but still have nightmares of Mongols burning my new library). What is different now?

I have owned and played every Civilization game since 2. I'm going to get this and probably enjoy it as much as I have the others. But pre-ordering any game, even by a studio as trusted I as say, Naughty Dog, is a no-no. I think if we've learned anything as a community it is to not lock yourself into the purchase of a game that may or may not be accurately reflected in the marketing materials.

Well since civ 2. A lot! They will continue the hexagon tiles and 1 military unit per tile, as well as city defense making capturing city's much more difficult that was introduced in Civ 5.

The will go back to multiple leaders per country/empire making for more diverse gameplay which was ditched in civ 5.

But the new rub is geography will play a much bigger role in this game. River, plains, mountains, coast will all play vital roles in city growth. Wonders will focus much more on resources available, opposed to tech unlocked. Placement of farms, markets and buildings will directly effect city growth. Workers and builders are separate and builders will disappear after a finite number of structure are built by them. Advanced tech tree, and new forms of governing will be introduced. They really are trying to make each playthrough unique and map/starting location specific.

It looks really good, and will only get better through Community Mods, DLC, and expansions.

I thought they said that you could combine units in this one again. Or was that just for escorting citizens, etc?

I have it purchased and ready to roll this evening. But I probably won't play it until tomorrow.

Well from what I am reading, its one per tile, with an additional support such as a builder, settler, field medic, battering ram, siege tower, anti-tank or anti-aircraft unit.

Starting in the Renaissance era, two of the same unit can be combined into a Corps, which is less powerful than two individual units, but more survivable and takes up less space on the map (to reduce overcrowding). Later in the modern era, three units can combine to form an Army. The ability to form Corps and Armies are unlocked in the Civics tree rather than the technology tree.

So you can combine units of the same type (up to 3 in modern era) but they will become one unit and won't be "stackable" per say, but a more powerful single unit. It will also reduce overcrowding on the map late game.

Well that just sounds pretty awesome.

What other long time franchises have **** the bed?

Sim City actually was what it advertised, but the whole re-branding back to Sim City instead of part 5 should have been an indicator that it wasn't the same game that it used to be. But I still got my money's worth from that game.

See, now, I don't go around telling YOU to stifle when the game in question you not only haven't played, but is totally out of your wheelhouse. I invite any opinions, especially yours, because I am a tolerant and empathetic person with a history of helping the developmentally challenged pre-ordering crowd.

AssAss creed always sucked, COD always sucked, Madden's been meh for nearly 20 years, Old Tomb Raider was wonky as **** so it could only improve. resident evil killed itself on part 4, Tony Hawk was a Brand new iteration, not really the next version in a long term series made by the same team. And Silent Hill wasn't any good after the first one.

Next group?

I don't mind rewarding companies for putting out superior products. This series has done that time and time again for decades. I really like firaxis and the Civilization series. I do not mind supporting stuff I like. If the game is a failure (which I highly doubt it will be) I will have spent $60 (which I was guaranteed to spend anyways) and they will have to win me back next go around on Civ 7. Until then, they have the benefit of the doubt.

I rarely pre-order anything. But this series has been a must own for me since I was introduced to it with Civ 2.
