The problem for Kap was that he never was a top tier QB by all accounts. At his best, he was pretty average. But normal for him led to a lot of losing. Sure some of that is his surroundings, but it's clear his flaws contributed to poor offensive output for most of the teams he played for.
While I have no doubt he was pretty much forced out of the NFL, it wasn't to hard for owners to make the excuse that they felt like the QBs on their team were better alternatives than Kap. Being a marginally average QB basically did him in. If he had a winning record or produced 4k-5k yard seasons, he'd still be playing.
Is it fair? Probably not, but a lot in life isn't fair.
