Civil War Reenactors spent the day on Dauphin Island learning how to be Confederate Soldiers. Several important Civil War battles mark their 150th anniversary in 2011.

Chad Petri.DAUPHIN ISLAND, Alabama - Confederate troops are preparing for battle on Dauphin Island. Several Civil War Reenactors spent the day at Fort Gaines. They were learning about life as a Confederate Soldier. The reenactors spent the day training just as their Civil War counterparts would 150 years ago. 2011 marks the 150th anniversary of several important war battles like Gettysburg.

“Various confederate units trained, drilled here, going through various troop movements, how to hold a rifle, how to stand at attention, how to live the life of a soldier,” says Assistant Professor of History at LSU Alexandria Chris Stacey(RebSaint). The drills continue through Sunday morning. Stacey says these exercises will keep these guys safe during war reenactments that’ll happen in different parts of the country this year.

Not to be too big of a dork but Gettysburg's 150th anniversary will be in 2013 (battle was fought in July of 1863)
