Maybe get something off your chest? Maybe end up in a fight?

I'll start.

I like Jane's Addiction. A lot. I can still listen to their albums - they're killer. But "Jane Says" is a lame song. Don't ever need to hear it again.

John Lennon was a homophobe, anti-semite, and wife beater who espoused a philosophy he didn't actually believe in (or at least made zero effort to actually live up to) and a third grader could poke holes through and gets called a genius by Baby Boomers for it. He is literal garbage.
Whoa...way to one up me!

I think they are a very good band but don't think they deserve "Greatest Band Ever" label. I would rather listen to the Stones, the Who or Led Zeppelin before the Beatles. I'd even rank Rush ahead of the Beatles
The Beatles have more hit songs than all of them combined. And if we did a coaching tree of sorts, their contribution to musicianship and music (sounds I'm guessing you love now when you hear other bands do it) is pretty unrivaled by anyone outside of the blues and R&B sounds that gave birth to Rock and Roll. Plus, they get points for not just stealing music. They were all students of the artform, fans first, and acknowledged it.

It is impossible to overstate how wrong this post is, almost every single syllable of it... But just as a point of fact, so you know, i am not a Baby Boomer, not even close- i’m in fact a Gen Xer, i often refer to Lennon as a genius, and i’m far from the only one.. i even know some Millenials who feel the same.. His appeal is multigenerational.
I see what you did there.

I standby my original assessment even if it seems contradictory. The Beatles were great, Lennon was overrated. The forth Beatle but in reality, he just had the pomposity to convince many he was one or two. Disagree? Let's see these Beatle member rankings.

Other than Highway to Hell, AC/DC kinda sucks.

Too many of their songs sound the same.
That....was the idea. Mission accomplished, I'd say. As one critic put it, they managed to put out the exact same record seven times in a row and they all sold pretty well.

Especially because he never used Holly's last name, which was a killer.
Interesting tidbit - on Friday I had the kids in the car and we listen to Kids Place Live, it's a Sirius radio channel with a primary target audience of about 4 to 12, I'd say.

Anyway, "Rock and Roll" by the Velvet Underground came on and I had quite a laugh thinking about that song, that band, it's history and how funny it is that in 2020, the kids channel plays Velvet Underground. There's no reason not to play that song, it's perfectly fine for kids. But it's just funny to me to think about the context.

I play the Velvets and Lou Reed in the car even if the kids are in it. If they're not old enough, they don't even listen, and if they are, I explain.

"Waiting for the Man" might be one of the best R&R songs ever written. I'm not the huge "Sweet Jane" fanatic that other Velvet/Reed fans are, I do think it's a fine song, but overrated myself.

Agree - I'm a fan.

And I agree about Sweet Jane, it's not up the list of VU songs for me either. But I do enjoy the Cowboy Junkies version.

The Ballad of John and Yoko

.. the list is endless.
but it should not include "The Ballad of John and Yoko".....which was written almost exclusively by McCartney for John and Yoko.

Also, little known fact, Norm: Tommy Smothers was one of the performers in the group for "Give Peace a Chance."

Back when Van Halen was changing lead singers all the time, I thought it would be funny if they chose Bob Dylan as their lead, and called the band, Van Dylan. Even went so far as to imitate Dylan singing Van Halen's Ain't Talking About Love. I found it funny, and still do.

That is my contribution of Bob Dylan to this thread.

I guess you could say 185 even
Take your shot
I don't really have a shot to take. I just think it's interesting that the most important American artist in the last century hasn't yet been mentioned (one way or another).

^^or would that qualify as controversial?^^
