Yup, one. That one is a reach.
I know enough about them to say I don’t like their music. I never have, I never will. As others say and I agree, music appreciation is purely subjective. I don’t think they belong in the poorly-named Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.it probably would be better to say you don’t actually know anything about the Beastie Boys
I think part of the issue with Rock n Roll is how broad it is. When I think of rock, I think of hard rock and heavy metal. But then there's soft rock and power ballads and the broader pop rock. I think I'd have more interest in a metal hall of fame than the current iteration of the RRHOF. Just a thought.
I was never that into metal (hardly at all really) but I have always liked hard rock . . . I'm sure the line between the two is often blurry. But I definitely used to enjoy Headbangers Ball on MTV. That was just a fun show to watch. So was Yo! MTV Raps.
Well, the Headbangers Ball is the sole reason I became a metal fan. But yeah, both of those were pretty fun. Good times! FWIW, I've always enjoyed both hard rock and metal. Although I started out more hard rock, but later got into metal. I'm not much of a music snob though. I'll listen to pretty much any genre if I like the sound.
I'm still not sure where you are going.
A song that sucks from a band you like?
But this has always been controversial.
John Lennon was a homophobe, anti-semite, and wife beater who espoused a philosophy he didn't actually believe in (or at least made zero effort to actually live up to) and a third grader could poke holes through and gets called a genius by Baby Boomers for it. He is literal garbage.
I think they are a very good band but don't think they deserve "Greatest Band Ever" label. I would rather listen to the Stones, the Who or Led Zeppelin before the Beatles. I'd even rank Rush ahead of the Beatles
It is impossible to overstate how wrong this post is, almost every single syllable of it... But just as a point of fact, so you know, i am not a Baby Boomer, not even close- i’m in fact a Gen Xer, i often refer to Lennon as a genius, and i’m far from the only one.. i even know some Millenials who feel the same.. His appeal is multigenerational.
Other than Highway to Hell, AC/DC kinda sucks.
Too many of their songs sound the same.
Especially because he never used Holly's last name, which was a killer.
- The Eagles and Aerosmith are both pure garbage. I know they have some talented musicians, but their music is dog ****
Interesting tidbit - on Friday I had the kids in the car and we listen to Kids Place Live, it's a Sirius radio channel with a primary target audience of about 4 to 12, I'd say.
Anyway, "Rock and Roll" by the Velvet Underground came on and I had quite a laugh thinking about that song, that band, it's history and how funny it is that in 2020, the kids channel plays Velvet Underground. There's no reason not to play that song, it's perfectly fine for kids. But it's just funny to me to think about the context.
