Someone mentioned in another thread about a QB needy team wanting to jump Cleveland at 12 to get a QB. Could we be interviewing all these QBs to appear as if we may take one in the 1st and increasing the potential trade value of the pick?

Also, what would it take in a package w/cooks to get up high enough to get miles garrett?

If the Saints pretend to be interested in grabbing a quarterback, then you are adding trade value to pick #10, not ours. Teams would have to jump ahead of us if they think we want a qb at 11.

Cleveland has the first overall pick and one behind us. If you think on jumping for the first pick you are thinking at least on your first picks this and next year, plus other picks in the package. Just look at what teams gave up to get Goff and Wentz.

If Cleveland has a QB in mind, and he's "their guy" to lead them forward, they won't risk it, they'll draft him at #1, especially since 4 teams (SF, Chicago, NYJ, and Buffalo) may all well end up drafting QBs in the top 10.

As for Garrett, what we'd have to give up to go get him would be detrimental to building the rest of the defense the next couple of years. If even 3/4 those teams do draft QBs, not only will we have a shot at a top pass rusher, we'll likely have to choose which one we like the most (which is not a bad problem to have).

That's the boat I'd rather be in.

I really think the Saints are looking to get a mid 1st round in order for ammo to move up for Garrett. Feels like they want to do something big like that.

Still wouldn't be close to enough.

If we could somehow get the titans #5 pick, then that may be an ideal spot to land Garret. If the browns, 49ers and bears all go QB (which could very well happen), next is the Jets who would probably go for Fournette or Jamal Adams.

If we could obtain a mid-first, we could probably move up to 1 if we throw in a future pick.

The Saints always interview a ton of QBs. They even interviewed Winston when everyone knew where he was going to go. The school of thought is that it's an opportunity to get an early scouting report on them. Lots of teams do this. Teams do anything for a competitive advantage. Supposedly the Patriots try out all of the kickers and chart their onside kicks.

It's hard to imagine Garrett not significantly improving this defense. They may even become goo...not awful. There are lots of good prospects in this defense but I don't think that any have his floor. If you get rid of Cooks to move up in the first...it better be for someone you would be shocked that he wasn't great. Garrett is the only guy I have in the category (except McCaffrey, who nobody wants on this forum).

The Saints did draft a QB in the 3rd round a few years ago with Brees much closer to his prime. It's not inconceivable that they will take someone in the 2nd-3rd this year.
