Nice Link! I broke the Saints stuff down and stuck it in one image to make it easier to look at.

What balanced. Didnt you know Sean Payton has all the money going to offense that's why our defense sucks!

Didn't realize Bushrod had a 6+ mill cap hit this past season. This site is great I wish it had the 2013-14 cap numbers. We can assume Sed Ellis' 7 mill is coming off the books, and I know that the team would probably like to retain Bushrod, but how much do they pay him?

Loomis is going to have to work some magic this offseason... he's going to earn that new contract in this offseason alone. Can't wait to see him do his thing and flip those numbers to get us under the cap, and hopefully get us into a position where we may be able to sign a couple guys that can help us.

Tbh, Janakowski and Lechler are the best at their craft and have won them more games than they have lost.

Yep. The problem is that they pay their special teams players the most in the league and they spend the least in the league on defense and the second least in the league on offense.

I already knew this, i.e. that we spend more on defense (or right at even) compared to the offense. It's often an excuse you here for their crappy performance. That if we just spent more the defense would be good. That's always been bunk.

So it's good to see it quantified in a chart like this. We've certainly spent more draft resources on defense as well.

It wont be that difficult. After parting ways with Will Smith and Vilma alone we'll be under the cap. Then shedding some salaries by releasing guys like Chamberlain, Jenkins, Dave Thomas, Herring and a few others we can get around $10 million under. If we drop Harper we could free up another $3-4 million.

If we restructure Brees alone we could get up to $9 million in additional cap space. Also guys like Colson, Evans, Moorestead, Greer and some others could restructure for up to another $7-9 million.

It is unlikely we do all of the above to free up $25+ million in cap space because we wouldn't want to tie our hands with freeing up cap space in the future but I bet we get around $15-20 million under the cap afer all is said and done and that is enough to sign any OT in the league to a long term contract and pick up some other quality free agents.

I don't mind if we keep pushing money forward each season because eventually we'll have to rebuild when Brees leaves and in that rebuild year take your medicine by spending very little and get the finances back in order.

Saints are a middle of the road team as far as total salary, and are very balanced when comparing defense and offense.

Tbh, Janakowski and Lechler are the best at their craft and have won them more games than they have lost.

I guess you can look at it any way you want. I tend to look at it like they spend about 6 million more than everybody else for players that see less than a dozen plays combined a game. I would give that money to a couple player that play 40 snaps a game. That would have a bigger impact than kickers.
