They stopped testing during the hurricane last week.

Either they're deliberately misreporting Covid deaths as pneumonia/flu or they and other states are in the middle of an historic outbreak of non-Covid respiratory disease.

America’s status and reputation in the rest of the world is taking a beating and may take years to gain back

ROME (AP) — The United States’ failure to contain the spread of the coronavirus has been met with astonishment and alarm in Europe, as the world’s most powerful country edges closer to a global record of 5 million confirmed infections.

Perhaps nowhere outside the U.S. is America’s bungled virus response viewed with more consternation than in Italy, which was ground zero of Europe’s epidemic.

Italians were unprepared when the outbreak exploded in February and the country still has one of the world’s highest official death tolls at 35,000.

But after a strict nationwide 10-week lockdown, vigilant tracing of new clusters and general acceptance of mask mandates and social distancing, Italy has become a model of virus containment.

“Don’t they care about their health?” a mask-clad Patrizia Antonini asked about people in the United States as she walked with friends along the banks of Lake Bracciano, north of Rome. “They need to take our precautions ... They need a real lockdown.”

Much of the incredulity in Europe stems from the fact that America had the benefit of time, European experience and medical know-how to treat the virus that the continent itself didn’t have when the first COVID-19 patients started filling intensive care units.

Yet, more than four months into a sustained outbreak, the U.S. is about to hit an astonishing milestone of 5 million confirmed infections, easily the highest in the world.

Health officials believe the actual number is closer to 50 million, given testing limitations and the fact that as many as 40% of all cases are asymptomatic.

“We Italians always saw America as a model,” said Massimo Franco, columnist with daily Corriere della Sera. “But with this virus we’ve discovered a country that is very fragile, with bad infrastructure and a public health system that is nonexistent.”...............

Hopefully that’s enough of a warning that Italy and others should never back a 3rd rate Berlusconi

Nationwide, 200,700 more people have died than usual from March 15 to July 25, according to C.D.C. estimates, which adjust current death records to account for typical reporting lags. That number is 54,000 higher than the official count of coronavirus deaths for that period. Higher-than-normal death rates are now widespread across the country; only Alaska, Hawaii, Maine and West Virginia show numbers that look similar to recent years.

From my post two days ago...

What this means is that in this past month, our already-absurd P&I number has risen by 13,650, so we now stand an incredible 38,650 P&I deaths above our yearly average in 2020.

According to our CDC data , from 2014-2019, we have averaged 31,917 such deaths due to unknown causes, with no single year really standing out from the rest. Move on to 2020, and you’ll see that we have 47,797 deaths this year currently rendered as “unknown causes,” meaning we are currently approximately 16,000 deaths above our average in that category, with a whole five months to go still in the year. Essentially, we are on pace to double this category compared to prior years.

So, we are 54,000 higher on our excess death number according to the NY Times article after factoring in the COVID deaths. Basically, this backs up my analysis in the post above, pretty much on the nose...

38,862 P&I excess + 15,880 unknown causes excess = 54,742

Incredible stuff. We are clearly being lied to and/or major mistakes have been made.

Bless their little hearts....they're still in denial of the shirtstorm that's about to hit them in the coming week.

The next two weeks are going to be something, as it spreads in already opened districts and new districts continue to open up. It's going to be a mess. It will be interesting to see how many administrators/superintendents double down on being delusional freaks like this fool has.

Yes, I predict that very few of them will have the humility to say, "I was wrong."
