Craig Robertson unsung hero of this defense (1 Viewer)

For the record I'll say this.

Anthony isn't good enough in coverage to play the Will position. Thats why he's only being used as a SAM. So in his defense with Robertson moving over the next guy up was Stupar who is also solid in coverage as well.

There is still time for both of them but I don't see Peat playing anywhere but LG in the future including next year and we'll still be looking for a RT soon. On the Flip side Robertson is under contract until next year and he's better used in the middle because his man to man skills aren't WLB worthy. His coverage was merely OK as rated by PFF in the few weeks he was at WLB.

To me he is Vilma light and would be best served covering zones over the Middle vs walking out on a Slot WR at WLB or being assigned Coverage responsibilities on the shiftier RB's in the league.

Anthony so far is behind the 8ball. It would def be different if he had coverage ability and just needed time to learn play calling but he's gotta improve in 2 of the 3 facets it takes to be a MLB. Coverage/Play Recognition. Neither were his strong suits coming in.......I can't see how thats going to change much moving forward.

Its a coaches league and coaches will always think they can coach up players "Tyeler Davison" was that type of pick...but some guys don't take to the coaching.

Could be what we are seeing here.

Said that back in October and its held true. Doesn't have the speed/range that Vilma has but boy can he hit for a smaller guy and he has very good command of the D vs what he's seeing from the offense.

Robertson is a stud. Keeper. Stud. Said so many times.

That being said, is it just me? Or are we still getting getting gashed up the middle too many times. Pair Reuben Foster with Robertson.

I'd love to see it.

Interesting. I thought our interior defense was above average/good yesterday? Perhaps i missed a few runs but I still saw us getting chewed on the edge or on traps where we'd catch an interior guy slipping but as far as running power plays straight up the middle on us....we've been stingy.

The goal line stands kind of point to that.

His career sort of mirrors Jabari Greer in that when Greer was in Buffalo he was basically a nickel back and STr. Robertson while playing a different position was also a STr and sub package player. Both players had gotten significant starting time the season before signing with the Saints. And when both came to the Saints they both took over significant starting rolls.
Another great low key FA gem signing.

I'm not sure about the Vilma comparisons... Robertson seems miles ahead of Vilma was in terms of defending the run and delivering hard shots and form tackling. I think Vilma was great, but his strength was in coverage.

You don't remember vilma very fondly. I recall him demolishing players with strong hits on more than one occasion though I do agree that Vilma was much better in coverage(had better speed)

Oh I certainly think Robertson is very "sung" of a hero. We've been singing his praises all season long.

I had a feeling back in week 1 that once this guy got inserted into the lineup as an injury replacement that it would be difficult to take him off the field.

Oh well...I felt all preseason that we absolutely had to figure out how to get Robertson on the field; this forces our hand. I have a feeling this guy has star potential. We got a steal; Cleveland is so clueless.

It would be nice to have them both, but I am glad we now get to see a lot of Robertson this weekend. He is a defensive back in a linebackers body when it comes to pass coverage and a playmaker. I fully expect him to make a couple of impact plays Sunday. Book it.

We absolutely, positively HAVE to find a way to get this guy on the field on 3rd downs, if not all downs. He is a coverage SPECIALIST from the linebacker position.

We have hit the jackpot with this guy. He's better than we realize right now; he just doesn't have the big name, yet.

Robertson is not close to Vilma in value. But he's playing well, and we should be happy we have him.

My thoughts exactly. Not only that, but he had pretty good coverage, the pass and catch to Ginn were off-the-charts perfect.

Yea, Craig could stand to lose 10-15 pounds. If he did, I think he would be as good as Vilma. (Ellerbe's weight is also not ideal)
