Crawfish traps (1 Viewer)

So, I'm inspired to go crawfishing after reading the question about zip ties. I don't have much storage for the traps, so I've been looking at these.

Amazon.com: Eagle Claw Minnow Trap (9 x 16-1/2-Inch): Sports & Outdoors

$10 a pop. I could put out 5 and catch pretty decent I would think. Anyone have experience with these types of traps?

What's amazing is I have talked to some game wardens and crawfish are everywhere up here in Wisconsin. They have gone as far as draining ponds to try and get rid of them and it isn't working. Specifically they are trying to get rid of the Rusty which is supposed to be pretty invasive. My neighbor and I are building 10 traps each, but we have another 2 months maybe before we start trying. Our waters are still frozen lol. Worst case scenario we catch nothing and I had some fun making traps while drinking bourbon and smoking a good cigar. Best case, I have fun and catch dinner.

I have a question for you crawfish guys. How come we only eat them in the spring? Does it have to do with a season or is it something with shells hardening?

They eat them most of the year now with pond crawfish.
Spring is the traditional time, because that's when the Atchafalaya delta floods and the crawfish are caught on the flooded land. The shells do get hard late in the season, but I've seen years where the water has stayed up into the middle of the summer and a second batch has come out.
