Crazy Brees Stat (1 Viewer)

Saw it on the NFL app, I would assume that’s the regular season. I did not research it.

not finding much (i'm not going to go season by season)
without context i don't know what to do with this stat
obviously it includes san diego
seemingly it can really only be a December stat - does it include games he started and then got pulled to rest for the playoffs?

i guess the record does not include playoffs since 2009 was 3 Ws against 10+ teams

This stat is only for the regular season. He's also 6-1 vs #1 overall total defenses.

Times he lost vs 10+ win teams, stolen from Reddit:

Game 1: vs Carolina, 2008. Last game of the year, Saints were already eliminated from the playoffs. 11-4 Panthers were playing not just for a bye week, but to stay ahead of the Falcons in the division.

Game 2: 2010, 10-4 Saints vs 12-2 Falcons. Saints win, but cant take the division in Week 17, and travel as 11-5 to the 7-9 Seahawks in the playoffs.

Game 3: 2012 (Payton's suspension year) - lost to the 10-1 Falcons

Game 4: 2013, 10-1 Seahawks beat the 9-2 Saints in Seattle.

Game 5: 2013, 10-4 Panthers beat the 10-4 Saints

Game 6: 2015, 11-0 Panthers beat the 4-7 Saints

Game 7: 10-5 Falcons beat the 7-8 Saints

----

Basically, 2013 is the only year where we had a good team *and* lost to 10+ win teams.

and all but 1 were divisional games
that seems like important context as well

Full disclosure...I'm not a mathematician. But I do think that I have enough common sense to answer this question.

Saints opponents had a record of 110-23 (win % of 83%) when the played the Saints. That means that opposing QBs of those teams had a win percentage of 17%.

Brees has a 2-8 record (win percentage of 25%) against those same teams. That means that Brees did 32% better than other opposing QBs of those same teams.

Bottomline...anyone is going to have a bad win percentage against 10+ win teams, especially if you aren't on a 10+ win team yourself. And Brees did significantly better against good teams than other QB.

All but one of those games were against division opponents too, with the other being against a good Seattle team on the road (as a Saint at least). That is important context. Division games are always tough, especially against a team with 10+ wins.

Worth noting that his two wins came when he was leading a winning team. 8-5 heading into the game in 2005, and 10-4 in 2010. The 2004 Chargers were 11-3 before that overtime loss on the road.
