Saint-Ragnar here, the friendly interloper from Vikings fandom:

I was watching the LSU vs. TOSU game last week and I saw outside shots of the Superdome with "dancing" lights around the base, I was wondering if this is a normal occurence at night, if this was something special becuase of the National TV nature of the game, or if this was a special effect from Fox like the "glow puck" from when Fox had the NHL, or what?

Here's hoping the Saints and Vikings meet in the NFC championship game this coming season!

I'm pretty sure those are post-katrina additions. The 1st time I noticed them was during the Saints-Falcons home opener last year.

They are real. They usually aren't dancing, but are on much of the time.

They only do the lights for big events. Sugar Bowl, Nationally televised games, etc.

Yeah that was pretty cool...I wasn't expecting that after the game.
