"Lofton’s cap figure was scheduled to be $7.1 million. But the Saints were able to drop that number to $3.1 million by replacing a scheduled $5 million roster bonus with a $5 million signing bonus that will be pro-rated over the remainder of the contract."

Sweet saved 4 mil only 16 mil more to go lol.

Mixed feelings about the process. I really don't want to increase our cap number in the following years, but I trust Loomis knows exactly what he is doing.

Although, Lofton is the perfect guy to do so, relatively young, and for sure on our plans for the long haul.

Exactly. You'll only see Loomis doing this with players he expects to play out their contracts.

Exactly, I don't wanna see this done with any old or washed up players but Lofton is perfect

Maybe they do the same with Hawthorne. He has a 3M roster bonus. I don't think the guys mind getting paid a few months early.

It's a twofold benefit for the players. They get paid sooner plus they become uncuttable for a couple of years until their dead money is less than their salary.

I'm pretty sure Loomis is planning everything out for projected future salary caps. In Loomis we trust.

Yup. Guess that answered the question as to which of the 3 linebackers are in the long term plans.. Lofton is one.

The cap will be going up big time next year so I'm sure this was all in the plans... probably even worked it out with Lofton when he signed his deal last year. Loomis is beastly.

That's a great point guillermo. This is why drafting well in the later rounds is so important. Great late round draft picks provide needed positions on the team at a huge discount.
