Having all those safeties/corners out there isn't working.

We may need to have three LBs out there instead of two.

Plus has P-Rob played at all? Shouldn't he be at the nickle spot?

Also, is Ceedy Duece at his right position? Haven't seen much out of him so far, shouldn't he be the one blitzing more than M. Jenkins?

Lastly, kinda ready to sit Marcus Williams b/c not seeing it from him at all.

DA is done. Sure the defense is hard to read sometimes but after the snap it’s easy to bust. Marcus Williams isn’t Earl Thomas or even elite. Malcolm Jenkins did well today in man coverage. But this team loves to give up the play action pass.

but at least we don’t allow 100 yards rushers!

Agree. This isn't working. The big play has been and continues to be back breaking.

Either the scheme doesn't work or the players we have are not nearly as talented as they seem to be on paper.

How much of DA's failure(s) can be attributed to Payton, though? DA was hand picked by Payton. Why? Because he'll bend over for him and do whatever he says. There was a reason Gregg Williams was successful here with what was mostly lesser talent, because he had the cojones to bark back and tell SP he was wrong on a given play call. Same went for Ingram. Just seems like SP is the one constant in a lot of the defensive woes.

Not sure if it is all on coaching...

our D just doesn’t shine in any position.
We got NO passrush at all
Jordan is having a terrible year. Two-draft-picks wont see the field soon.

Our secondary tries to social distance the entire game

and our linebackers cant either stop the run anymore nor do they do anything against slants.

Enemies are moving the ball at will.

Dennis Allen cant do nothing about all those whiffed tackles... sometimes opposing WR/TE/RBs are carrying our defenders across the field instead of going down
It’s almost comical

Three weeks in a row we fail to find and cover any TE off the line. It proves other teams watch game tape on us but we must not be watching our own.

If you have a strong receiver who's good after the catch, target Marcus Williams all day. He will arrive late, miss tackles, get dragged for extra yards. Easy to attack.

Leaving that weakness out there to be exploited goes to coaching.

Gregg Williams demanded in his contract full control of the defense and Payton was legally bound not to interfere.

That is why Payton had Joe Vitt snitching on Williams defensive meetings and game planning. Bounty gate or not Gregg Williams was already leaving because he and Payton couldn't co-exist.

Payton is indeed the persistent variable. Other than Williams his DC hires have been poor...at best uninspiring. Guys like Gary Gibbs and Dennis Allen aren't going to push back on him, and in exchange Payton is going to be slow to demand accountability.

Maybe more than just him, but they need to start with Marcus Williams. He's just terrible.

Look at how the pats was able to shut down raiders TE
Pats have an actual, complete HEAD COACH, who adapts week to week to whatever needs to be done across all three phases.

Run the ball 40 times, throw the ball 40 times. Shut down player A. Take what the defense gives.

Whatever it takes. Different than this focus on how to win with playcalling...and bias to what the offense can and can't do.

Payton is not near the same level of Bellichek.
