The New Orleans Pelicans would like to get a deal done before the 2019 NBA Draft too!

According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, David Griffin has revealed his outline to prospective teams interested in trading for Anthony Davis. The New Orleans Pelicans Executive Vice President of Basketball Operations has placed a clear premium on good young players over future draft picks.

Griffin is pursuing a combination of assets that include an All-Star player, a young player with All-Star potential and two first-round picks, league sources said. Those wants are on a sliding scale. For example, the better the player, the softer the requests on the draft picks -- and vice versa.

Obviously, not every team will be able to meet the high demands, hence the reason why Wojnarowski writes that the Lakers and the Knicks may have to flip their assets for items of greater interest to New Orleans.

Additionally, we should probably expect some teams to pass on the Anthony Davis sweepstakes. For instance, there have been rumors swirling that the Los Angeles Clippers do not want to include Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and the Boston Celtics may be reluctant to part with a package of their best assets — which include Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown and the Memphis Grizzlies 2020 first round pick — if Kyrie Irving does not re-sign in Beantown.

With a one-on-one trade presenting mild difficulties for Griffin to acquire everything he seeks, Wojnarowski acknowledges that the Pelicans front office “has been working to find multi-team trade scenarios that could redirect assets for players or picks more preferable to the Pelicans.” That said, Griffin is leaning towards completing a deal days prior to the 2019 NBA Draft on June 20th.

If you don’t have a calendar handy, that’s a tight window inside of 10 days and likely seven or eight tops. For this reason, Kevin Pelton thinks the advantage now lies with the Los Angeles Lakers because they “don’t have to worry about a star player potentially leaving (Irving) or figuring out exactly who’s going to commit in free agency this summer (like the Knicks).”

Meanwhile, Bobby Marks believes that either the Boston Celtics or the Los Angeles Lakers are likeliest to emerge with Anthony Davis. If Danny Ainge is willing to meet Griffin’s demands, Davis should be headed to Boston. If not, he’ll finally land alongside LeBron James as Brandon Ingram, Lonzo Ball, Kyle Kuzma and Laker future assets have appeal.

Stay tuned! It seems like the Anthony Davis era has at most just one week remaining in New Orleans!!
