I had to look up who the woman in the trailer was. Seems like a powerful mutant, if they're following the comics.

It's Cassandra Nova. She was Charles Xavier's twin*, but he sensed that she was pure evil and psychically murdered her in the womb.

Somehow the cellular remains of her fetal body ended up stuck to a sewer wall where she managed to keep herself alive to grow to adulthood.

Them she hijacked a bunch of Sentinels and genocided 16 million mutants. Because comics.

*actually she was conceived without a body but psychically cloned one out of fetal Charles' DNA and made a second fetus in his mother's womb. She tried to strangle him with his own umbilical cord but he killed her instead.
