Institutionalised racism is 100% a thing and it exists to varying degrees in the US and Australia and everywhere in between. Plainly, it operates to deny POC the same opportunities as are afforded to whites in certain situations.

However, this ridiculous Deadspin “hot take” is not only nonsensical and offensive, it is actually quite harmful because it tries to co-opt a legitimate cause in support of an absolutely ludicrous, baseless observation.

Coach Payton may be many things too, but racist isn’t one of them.

Until white America comes to terms with the horrors of its racial past and the continuing injustices of the racial present, we have no room or authority to tut tut any sort of racism claims
