Opinion Debunking the so-called Polar Vortex (1 Viewer)

Wrote this OP-ED article about 7 yrs. ago, but I believe it is still relevant.

I still haven't bought-in on this hype about the so-called "Polar Vortex." This article might be a bit deep if you don't have a strong science background. But I tried to explain it in laymen's terms.

I have no doubt that there will be naysayers to my rationale. That's OK. But if you want to refute it, I ask that you put forth the REASONING for your rebuttal.

Polar Vortex reasoning for Arctic outbreaks is hyperbole

Forget about a Polar Vortex spawning cold outbreaks; the concept violates the tenants of basic meteorology.

Yes, it's an arctic air high pressure air mass or continental arctic air. Usually the high pressure air masses that move through the lower 48 are continental polar air from Canada like an Alberta High.

I think the increased use of "polar vortex" is no different than the increased use of the word "derecho." We now have the technology to know enough about the weather to be more specific than "cold snap" or "thunderstorm."

I'm sure the phrase probably is overused as a response to the global warming skeptics asking "WHY IS IT COLD IF GLOBAL WARMING LOL". But dumb questions get dumb answers.

OP has a history pushing conspiracy theories.. he ran for Congress in 2010 and at that time he publicly speculated there may have been collusion between the federal government and BP to create "a leak" which then got out of control.

Derecho has been a meteorological term since the late 1800s.

Sure, but for whatever reason it has only really entered the public lexicon recently (except as a wartime term apparently.) We're just better at identifying the "why" (derecho) in addition to the "what" (big arse storm) than we used to be.

Do you understand that the government doesnt "sign off "on anything....the Drill companies file reports to regulatory agencies. So the government doesnt sign off on each step of the drilling /well capping processes.

If they did, you would be yelling that oil companies are mired in REGULATION.

So honestly, the shorter video is not even cut/pasted. Its just from the pertinent part where you allege some sort of intentional leak to then a cover up. The longer video is just more time of you mincing your words.

Cool graph. I went into the meteorology career field in 2003/2004 and my first derecho experience was in the spring of 2005, maybe 2006 IRRC. I was forecasting for the SE CONUS, primarily Nrn GA, SC, NC, TN, VA and KY. The system came across the Appalachians and and proceeded to produce derecho level winds across NC starting near Charlotte to the coast where we had over 80mph straight line winds associated with the line of TS. It was only within the last ~10 years or so that I saw them use the term on TWC, but in the meteorology community it has been used. TWC found a new word and ran with it.

I think it's valid information for anyone who chooses to engage with you on this topic.. you're an intelligent guy, I can see that and you know more about this particular topic than I do so there's not a whole lot for me to engage with on that... But thought it was worthwhile to let it be known that this intelligent guy has said some crazy sheet in the past interlaced amongst other sheet he said that wasn't so crazy... and so to anyone engaging or reading, just look closely at the source of information and what's being said.

It's interesting to me that you seem to view yourself as some kind of unquestionable authority on this. You then load the article and even thread title with adversarial words and bristle that anyone dare question you.

I feel you'd be better received without all of that, but it seems you've made that part of your schick of being persecuted by others for your beliefs. We can see that video and there was no bias in that clip by the media. It was your words exactly just edited for time to when you start discussing your conspiracy theory after first telling us don't think of it as a conspiracy theory.

It seems to me that you are setting yourself up as an authority using biased language and then whining about being victim of bias after your own words are called into question by logical individuals not ready to concede you are beyond bias.
