Defense only allows 9 points and we still lose the game... (1 Viewer)

For those who haven't been paying any attention the last few years: Since after the 2011 season, our offense has rarely been explosive on the road. What you saw today was a team that struggles to run the ball and, therefore, struggles to move the ball and score in a tough environment. Our vertical passing game is not the same on the road, particularly outdoors, as it is in the Dome, and b/c our running game is inconsistent and often weak, we just don't score on the road like we do at home. For all those posters who anointed the O line just fine after the Oakland game, look at the inability to run the ball between the tackles and how we have to stay in max protect to give Brees a chance to throw the ball. Even so, he got sacked and effectively pressured several times today.

Not looking to lay this loss at any one squad. There's plenty of blame to go around. It was a team loss. An offense that can't catch in a clutch and line that can't block in a clutch. Special teams that drives a low ball for a block and touchdown. Missed 38 yarder. Defense that can't come up with a stop in final minutes to prevent a fieldgoal. All three phases could have been better.
