I personally think Corey Williams should be priority numero uno. Mainly because we are not gonna spend huge $$$ on Briggs/Samuels and LB is pretty deep with the draft. Corey Williams and Florence would be a nice offseason imo...

Other mid-tier guys, who could interest Saints....I'll stick in DE just in-case, Conrad and for those interested.

DE:
Travis LaBoy (Titans)- Edge rusher.
Antwan Odom (Titans)- Powerful guy.
Bobby McCray (Jags)- Edge.
Jimmy Wilkerson (Chiefs) Not really a sack guy, but contributes.

DT-
Randy Starks (Titans)- Powerful young DT.
Kindal Moorehead (Panthers)- We had interest in him last year in FA, can play DT/DE.
William Joseph (Giants) - Who's probably a bust but the Coach O connection.

LB:
Landon Johnson (Bengals)- A tackle machine and best LB for them.
Boss Bailey (Lions)- Has speed and can play WLB.
Brandon Chillar (Rams)- Their 2nd best LB after Witherspoon, and makes plays.
Teddy Lehman (Lions)- Was productive his rookie year.
Kawika Mitchell (Giants)- Has been a starter most of the season for them.
Chaun Thompson (Browns)- Has good size, speed, but just hasn't had PT.
Reggie Torbor (Giants)- has been a decent back-up for them, and Mike D said he could be a target of ours.

CB:
Jacques Reeves (Cowboys)- Just started this season for the 1st time in his career. But struggled.
William James (Eagles)- We went after him last year, and knows Payton from NYG days.
Gary Baxter (Browns)- Has ALOT of talent, but is always injured.

S-
Erik Coleman (Jets)- Tackling machine.
Chris Crocker (Falclowns)- Depth guy.
Keith Davis (Cowboys)- Hard hitter/ST guy and we went after him 2 years ago.

Those are some other guys, who fit the bill for the Saints...other then the big names.

I would like us to go after Corey Williams, Lance Briggs as our top Free agents.

Then look at Madeiu Williams, Eric Coleman, Gary Baxter, Demorio Williams, Chaun Thompson, Teddy Lehman.

I think any of the above can compete and most probable replace one of our present defensive starters, which would open up our options in the draft a bit more.

I think the Saints will really look at Corey Williams and moorehead. They even brought in Moorehead as a RFA last season for a chat.

Its slim pickings in Free Agency, I agree with the poster that said Williams should be our priority free agent and we should just resign Smith, Colston and Evans and get better through the draft.

If the Saints were 3rd in the league in payroll at 110.4 million in 07 and at the same time have all this cap room, plus 3 key players to resign, wont that put us at the top of the list next year?

Not necessarily. It just depends on how the contracts spread the money over the life of the cap.
