I think Brees does make them better as pass protectors than they are, but they are usually a very good run blocking line too. Still, it's at worst a good, if not great, o-line. But they got beat bad on Sunday. Part of that is that Clapp had to come in and McCoy, as good as he may be, is still a rookie. I also think Aaron Donald was obviously a big problem. He could attack where were were the weakest with a backup in the game and a rookie. And, the entire line had to plan around stopping him which left other guys more vulnerable without help. It was just the perfect storm for a bad game by the o-line.
But, I appreciate Dan for confirming what I though I saw. It seemed to me that while Bridgewater didn't play great, the o-line penalties and bad play really hurt him. Not to mention Cook and the receivers not getting open and dropping a few very easy first down passes.
Feels like it was Fowler that was absolutely destroying the OL in the first half.
