Dennis Allen followed the defensive players as they spread around the field for individual position drills Aug. 24, the final day of training camp open to the media in Metairie.

The New Orleans Saints defensive coordinator observed the defensive linemen and linebackers before moving to a spot between the linebackers and defensive backs.

Allen stood quietly, arms crossed, his eyes focused intently on the cornerbacks and safeties going through a variety of drills with position coaches. That the former Texas A&M safety would pay special attention to a position he knows very well shouldn't surprise.
