Derek Carr world tour thread (updated with combine visits) (1 Viewer)

And the more the future of a slightly below average team will be mortgaged for a “solid” QB that has never shown he can elevate a slightly below average team.
So a 12-4 record in 2016 wasn't elevated? And a QB can't make a HORRIBLE defense play any better

First of all, I don't really have any faith in DA , I have some in PC. Depends on what you call meaningful. If we get Carr, stay fairly healthy and pick up a couple of pieces then I think we go 11-6. That almost surely wins the division. Even if the NFCS was not as weak that would put us in the wildcard game. I guess the only meaningful for you is the SB

A good defense and a good offense wins. DA has the defense part down. The only question is can he get the offense figured out? A lot of hate has been heaped upon PFC for this past season. But, regardless of the OC, the offense needs a serious upgrade. And even before the draft and excluding MT, the WR room is already better than they've had in a while. That's at least a step in the right direction.

If they have another good draft again this year, then yeah, things are trending in the right direction. If the defense can play at close to the same level as the 2nd half of the season, I think even a slight improvement in the offense will have a much bigger impact on than most would think.

I am not saying Carr is bad, I just do not think he is good enough to put this team at a level that is better than the last two years.

I know all the stuff about injuries and replacing Drew and DA can still turn it around with a better QB.

Yet, I still believe that what will likely be an overpriced QB like him, will just make it harder to actually make NO a real playoff caliber team - which is something they have not been the last two years.

1. Many people are debating if the Saints or Jets would be the best situation for Carr. No &*&$ thats why we are talking about the Saints and Jets.

2. Winning the South doesnt make you a contender. Right now the NFC South is the worst division I can recall in my liftetime. The best QB in the division as it sits is....Sam Darnold?

8-9 winner of the NFC South for a season or two, we have goals. We are going to mortgage the foreseeable future to maybe win the worst division in NFL history. Denial is real.
Winning the division is still a step in the right direction.
The Payton/Brees run started with a ‘06 NFCS title run.

You ever have someone you really don't care about get ready to do something stupid and you tell them "you should go ahead and do that?"...just to see how bad it turns out for them? That's what they're doing by pushing Carr to NOLA. What do we have that makes us a perfect fit?

  • An amazing offensive system? Nope
  • A stable coaching staff? Nope (we're a 1-4 start away from having an interim HC for 12 games)
  • Supporting cast? Kamara suspended 4-6 games, No MT, maybe a good TE in JJ (if he doesn't regress), a "Project" at LT
  • Exposure? Nah

So to me, if it sounds like 🐂:poop:, smells like 🐂:poop:...then it's probably 🐂:poop:. They want to bury Carr in NOLA so that NY can draft another QB and talk him up as the next big market darling. Nobody in big media tries to send anything of worth to us...they always try to steer it or take it away, so when they try to send it our way, its for a reason.
It’s not that they’re actively trying to steer Carr to a major market, they just mention the Jets because there is a rumor related to the team.
I said this before in this thread I think, but there is not a meeting on Park Avenue on how to steer superstars like Mahomes and Burrow into cities like New York, Chicago, or Miami.

If there were, people clearly didn’t listen since the biggest stars have been in Tampa, KC, Cincy, Buffalo and Green Bay the last three years

Remind me...where are they trying to steer Aaron Rodgers to again?

Those other guys aren't on the market but if they were best believe they'd be trying to link them to NY, LA, Dallas

So Rodgers *maybe* going to NY for 1-2 years nullifies the 15-plus years he spent in GB, not to mention all the other players I posted?

The logic on here is crazy sometimes, lol.

Also…who is “they”?

First of all...they're not aliens...they're lizard people

and secondly, they've been here longer than us....we're the aliens.

Anyway, all stupidness aside, when they (national Sports media) get a sniff of a big name hitting the market, the speculation is always towards the main markets...regardless of sport. But now you're telling me that they (the media, not lizard people again) are pointing the biggest FA QB not named Aaron Rodgers to New Orleans (without Sean Payton) as the best fit? Nah...I'm calling shenanigans.

Anyway, if you really look at the season, and understand that confidence level is what drives a team. It’s why they say that every year is a completely new team, regardless of any player movement. in short, it works like this, confidence leads to streaks, and streaks lead to belief and knowing. When a team gets to “Belief and knowing”, the other team can smell an arse whooping headed their way.
I say that to say this, I think if we would’ve had a little more success early in the year, we could’ve gone on a streak. We beat ATL luckily, then lose the hardest fight ever vs Tampa. Because of this crushing loss, we hit a losing streak. The next game, a trap game, Carolina, we were losing regardless, because we were spent. But had we had developed confidence instead of doubt, we go on a streak, beating the Vikings, Seattle, Bengals and Oak. At that point, our D which was the strength of the team, would be at the belief and knowing level vs the Ravens. This game I can’t predict, because they were playing really good too. But it would’ve not been a one sided embarrassment that led to losing to the hapless Steelers the next week. My point is, it’s a game of inches and effort. A few more inches (Mark Ingram) or a little more effort to catch the ball (Taysom) can determine a games outcome and that games outcome could’ve resulted in starting a streak. If you look at this team the way it really is, then you’d know you don’t burn down the house to rid the ants.

Yeah, I thought the team played hard, just missed opportunities, the defense not getting any turnovers and some key questionable playcalls at times was the difference between winning and losing. Team really should have won 10 games. But that's the NFL. I think this season is gonna make or break Allen. I really want him to succeed. I'm over complaining about the coaching.

Yet, had a few breaks that went their way, instead end up going the opposite way, means they could have also easily been 5-12. If that is how it works, Atlanta could have easily been 9-8. Carolina could have easily 9-8. MN could have been13-4 or 6-10, KC could have easily been 15-2 or 10-7.

This is why Parcells didn’t traffic in the kind of rationalization you are leaning towards.
