Despite fast start, New Orleans Saints aren't taking the bait
By Jeff Duncan, The Times-Picayune
September 22, 2009

A few years ago Sean Payton famously warned about the capriciousness of an NFL season, saying every week is "either a crisis or a carnival -- there's no in between."

Well, it's Carnival time in New Orleans.

The Saints are 2-0. Dogs and cats are living together. Mass hysteria is sweeping the Crescent City.

After two years as pretenders, the Saints appear to be contenders again. And New Orleans is all atwitter. Heck, they were apparently announcing score updates at one local supermarket during the game Sunday. "We've got fresh Creole tomatoes in Aisle 9 and another TD pass from No. 9. Saints lead 24-13!"

And it's hard to blame the club's long frustrated fan base from enjoying the Mardi Gras moment. After all, the Saints aren't simply 2-0. They are 2-0 with a bullet.

They are the first NFL team since the 2001 Colts to start the season with back-to-back 40-point games. Their 93 points are the most by any pro football team in the first two weeks of the season since the Oakland Raiders opened the 1968 AFL season with 95 points.

Can you imagine what Mardi Gras will be like after we win the Superbowl this year?

Drew Brees and the Saints will be the Grand Marshal of EVERY parade.

It'll be allsome.
