It is still considered the benchmark of a decent season for a RB. Thus it is significant.

Is Brees eligible for this award? He was knocked out for the season late last year right... Pennington hasn't done as much for his team as Deuce has.

Brees has won the award before after the 2004 season I believe. I still haven't figure out exactly what he was coming back from though that year.

DR, it may be time for you to change that quote in your sig.
It is the benchmark for the league. Significant how? The man had a devastating, season ending knee injury and to come back the next year and accomplish the league's benchmark is just incredible. I've had the same injury Deuce had. I couldn't have done what he has done.
I agree....for him to come back from a knee injury and have a good year is great, but the 1,000 yard mark is irrelevant.
Bra' how long have you been an NFL fan its been and has always been 1,000yrd rushing, 1.000yrd receiving and 3,000yrd passing have always been the milestones for a productive year for a runningback, reciever and quarterback.Considered by whom?
