A few months ago I worked at Second Harvesters Foodbank for a day helping distribute food donated by local grocery stores and food distros. The sick thing was the amount of food we had to throw away because it was out of date. The stuff you leave on your plate that your parents scolded you for and said there are people starving in China when you were a kid pales in comparison to the amount of food that is produced in this country and just sits on the shelves never to be eaten.
We went through 50 pallets of various boxed food items and threw away 2/3rds of it because the expiration date had passed.
